He can opt out this summer iirc.
Unless the Cavs show any interest, I doubt he will. No way anyone is gonna pay him anything near that.

I'm not sure that totally matters to him at this point, but we'll see.

If I was him, I'd take the money. You're not getting even half that anywhere else, and you've already got three rings.

Yeah, but I think part of that was being insulted by Miami's offer after he had given them a discount in the past. It's entirely possible he's learned his lesson from that too. Like I said, we'll see, but personally I would be surprised if he's back in Chicago next season.

Can someone remind me why the Lakers decided to hire Luke Walton?

I mean, who else should they have hired? can't make chicken salad outta chicken ****. he's a sacrificial lamb that'll play the kids. maybe they get lucky and hit lightning in a bottle but that'd just be an extremely unrealistic afterthought bonus.

Well he was the assistant coach of the Warriors that went to back to back Finals and coached them for a third of last season while Kerr was recovering from back surgery. Plus he was a former player(the Lakers love hiring former players to be a part of the Lakers) and could relate to today's NBA player.

Luke has high BB IQ even if he wasn't nearly as good a player as his dad but the Lakers are a mess regardless if anything you should be asking why Luke decided to return to the Lakers bench.

Yeah, they are tanking pretty egregiously, and it's the right move.

Wonder if LeBron/Kyrie/Love will rest tomorrow they will be playing the Lakers(same arena different logo) who want to lose...

If I were ABC I would be upset with this resting starters stuff same with fans of the road teams who don't get to see these guys more than once(twice?) a year.

It's crazy how players suddenly need to rest all the time now. Just shows how soft the league has become.

Shaq has joined the "world is flat" gang. Can't say I'm surprised. Shaq's never been the brightest crayon in the box.

This players resting saga actually has me sort of taking ABC/ESPN's side on this. They spent a boat load of money and they are getting ripped off multiple times a year. To speak nothing of the fans of course.

Look, I know we've made the regular season seem almost meaningless but this can't go on.

It's not that they need to rest. It's simply a competitive advantage to do so, and teams are willing to take any advantage they can get in order to increase their odds of winning a title.
