    Default Purdue Athletics 2016-17

Skipping right past the "football team"

Carsen Edwards is bigger than I was lead to believe. He's not a big kid or anything, and I know PJ's a pipsqueak, but he's got a good 3 inches on PJ and is pretty solidly built for a freshman. That's encouraging.

I think if Carsen can be good, along with PJ at least being solid and shooting well, that will be the biggest improvement the team can make. We have needed a PG for a few years now.

lotta rumors floating about the new AD being Eric Hyman. 101% a football guy. hired Sumlin at A&M (though people seem to think MUCH more highly of Sumlin than I do), hired Patterson at TCU, hired Spurrier at SC. the bad thing is that he's 65, so he's not long for the job. Jeff Washburn seems to think he'd a be a short term fix, 3/4 years, get the football program fixed and then when Cardinal's ready it's his job. or, much more unlikely, Brees is retired and comes home. I don't think that Brees scenario is likely at all but I think he'd be a GREAT AD, I also think Brees can walk on water and one punch KO a rhinoceros but y'know. we've got our gripes with Painter sure, but it's not like the hoops program needs fixed or anything, football's obviously a damn dumpster fire and is the main revenue generator (meaning one of two programs that actually make money, well, should be expected to make money) for all of athletics.

fwiw, if this actually happens, I think it's about as close to a home run as we can hope for. yeah, being a Big Ten AD is a pretty lofty job, but we're not all the desirable of one if we're being honest with ourselves.

oh yeah, you guys seen Vandy's WBB coaching staff for next year? Steph White, Kelly Komara, and Carolyn Peck. meanwhile we still got Versyp floundering around leading what was once a shining light for us.

My hope is it was just a bad culture fit, and he'll do better back in the midwest. Of course, the guy's already 58. If he sucks, I would think we won't be stuck with him for 25 years like Burke.

As for the lead to the article, I can't imagine the AD at Northeast Podunk State has anything to do with travel plans, let alone a Power 5 school.

GT and Purdue are really, really similar. If GT wasn't all that concerned with keeping him around it's worrying, to say the least. This is us firing Painter to go "steal" Stallings. this is a bummer.but hey, He's an ND alum, maybe he'll get the home and home series going again, Ross Ade could use a sell out once a year.

hoops went 4-0 on their Spain trip and none of the games were all that close, I don't think the competition was much to write home about though. Carsen Edwards killed it, that kid's probably gonna wind up starting eventually.

after hearing/reading every interview I can find with Bobinski, this dude is a toe the line nerd. this is gonna be more of the same ****. he did good stuff for X hoops I suppose, but I dunno how hard it is to just keep promoting former Matta assistants, not like he went and plucked Miller or Mack from outta nowhere.

Really not too into Purdue hoops this year, honestly.. I am a fan of PJ and Basil, and excited for Carsen Edwards.. But that's kind of it. I am hopeful for Swanigan an Taylor though.
AJ and RayDay really drove my intense fandom the last few years, and last year's team was such a let down.

I'm excited to see what Taylor can do with minutes.

As for Bobinski, I can understand everyone's concerns. However, as someone who was in school 20 YEARS AGO when Burke quit and then reneged, I'm very, very happy. In this case, change for change sake is a good thing. And if Bobinski sucks, at least at his age we won't be stuck with him for half as long.

He's very, very good, but he's also kind of notoriously an a%$ around campus. I don't root for those guys because at the end of the day, it's just a sport.
