I smell a made decision with IU.
You fire Crean and don't have a search committee?

Donovan or Stevens are no brainers for their resume.
Alford would be a crowd pleaser with the old guard. Not sure the program cares about the old guard.

I think Stevens is a Celtic and IU lost their chance there by letting him get away before.
I think it's Alford or Donovan. I almost want to get carried away and say Donovan simply because I'm not sure the program would be sold on Alford at this point. But Donovan would go in the no brainer camp and has a reason to leave OKC.
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

Yep it's Alford. He just said the kind of people they are interested in are still playing basketball, in post season tournaments. Alford is the guy they are going hard for obviously.

Oh nice he just tossed a Purdue jab in this presser.

    I think it's Alford.

Which to me says, IU has decided that Crean's success rate was basically fine, they just need a guy who can weather the lean times criticisms better. Blegh.

Because no other coach linked to the job is still in the tournament. Not Tony Bennett, Chris Holtmann, Gregg Marshall, Archie Miller, Chris Mack...

That being said, listening to the presser, it does seem like Alford is the guy.

It's not just that. He's strongly suggesting IU ties and such. I mean he's all but painted a picture of Steve Alford.

Donovan is such a risk. You're gonna wait til mid May maybe to make a decision? I don't see it. He'd have to leave OKC mid season which just seems nuts. Waiting til May exposes IU to not being able to recruit for 2 months and also what if Donovan changes his mind? I mean yeah, he's a homerun, but I don't see him taking the job right this second

Crean was hired on April 1, Sampson was hired on March 29. So there's your window of how long this typically lasts. Donovan seems really, really unlikely in that case.

Alford is a mistake if he turns out to be the guy. He will get similar results to Crean and it will be 100x harder to get rid of him because he's a legend as a player.

I think he could take it... put his assistants in place and handle recruiting... and then finish his OKC obligations thru the end of the season (if they want that).
Just like the buyout, it's a situation that should sort itself out IF there's mutual interest in making it happen.

Damn someone just point blank asked if the logistics of a sitting NBA coach would be a problem

edit: Glass responded that it's "a detail"

You get the sense Crean's relationships with Indiana high school/AAU coaches irked Glass.

Here is what we have all been waiting for. Yes! I'm standing by wanting Steve Alford. I don't think he will leave, but that's who I want. There would be an instant excitement all through Hoosier nation. I wonder if he would be more likely to leave if UCLA goes out early? I actually think they have a shot at the title.

Reporters are all tip toeing around Alford/Donovan as much as they possible can without actually saying their names.

Edit: forgot all about Stevens because I don't think there's any chance whatsoever that he's a candidate, but yah, he's probably more of the focus of those questions than Donovan

Steve Alford went 15-17 last year.
