I mean, seriously, what would happen?

Vacate wins? Unlikely, since this didn't involve player eligibility.

Reduce scholarships? Big deal, not like we ever beat the big boys anyway.

Bowl ban? Wow, no idea what I'll do with myself if IU isn't playing in the Foster Farms Bowl for a couple years.

If it's all the same, I'd rather be compliant with the NCAA.

So, playing conspiracy theory, exactly how on board was Wilson with firing Knorr (despite no defensive improvement) after just one year? We can't truly KNOW that he was THAT jazzed about Allen can we? Could it have been a decision that was motivated as much by Glass as by Wilson when they canned Knorr and went after Allen?

Knorr was the defensive coordinator for two seasons.

I read somewhere that Wilson had never even heard of Allen before the position was open and someone tipped him off or something. I don't really think there's any conspiracy going on there though.

Seems like recruits and players are excited about Tom Allen. Weird to say about a coach who has taken us to back to back bowls, but I think this was a good move.

Some of the offensive guys don't seem so pleased. They're at the very least extremely upset with the media. (Particularly Doyel.)

Yeah, I don't think it's likely. It's just so shocking given Wilson's success the last two seasons and his recent contract extension. I recall an incident or two when he first arrived where they basically had to get on it to back down his temper/attitude. One in particular was the way he went off on some non-football player in a dorm if memory serves.

Glass, one year after after giving Wilson a 38 year extension, axes Wilson and promotes a coordinator with no interview process? Yawn.

They'll be fine. If someone has a problem playing for Tom Allen, there's a problem with the player, not the coach.

I think that people trying to connect this to a mis-treatment of players who were injured are barking up the wrong tree.

Everything I am hearing relates to alcohol, and belligerence when under it's influence.

I don't have anything concrete, but that is the word going around in parts of Bloomington.

Thus the concern about leadership, which could also be read as setting an example by one's own behavior. Apparently, it had been under control for awhile, but not so much as of late.

That makes the most sense. But then again, if social media has taught us anything, when we don't know the real story and nothing seems to fit then whatever made up story that tends to connect the dots always makes a lot of sense.

Considering he just got an extension a year ago AND he's agreeing to walking away for pennies on that contract, it doesn't make sense that it would be any type of easy fixable or excusable issue. If there was a deep problem with player mistreatment then why give him an extension? And if something just happened this year or came to light in that regard, even if the school was up in arms about it, he should have a fairly good argument for it not being an offense that not only allows the school to fire him, but him to agree to go away happily for pennies versus holding them to the contract. So that part just doesn't fit.

It needs to be something where he doesn't have much leverage in his ouster. So an alcohol problem, belligerence, would certainly fit. Of course any type of NCAA violation would certainly fit too, except there doesn't seem to be any self-reporting of that going on. Something sexual also fits as well.

Very strange.... NDA obviously in place it seems... Let the rumors begin...
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I think the likeliest answer is that it was the combination of all those things that led to Wilson's dismissal. Either way, I'm happy. I'm a big believer in Tom Allen. The pool of coaching candidates this year isn't great, and I sort of doubt we could have gotten a PJ Fleck or anything.

For what it is worth, what I said did not come from "social media". No twitter or facebook or any of that.

No, but me reading it and believing you're likely onto something comes from social media... because that's where -I'm- seeing it (here, on a forum).

And quite frankly, with the little info we have, it fits. It makes more sense than what little 'official' info we have makes.
So my point is, I lean towards your info because it fills in the blanks the official story is lacking. But I try to catch myself from running with it too much because it would be easy to craft a story that would fill in the blanks with just enough detail mixed in with the known facts to also work. (Not saying you're doing that... )

IOW... I'm filing your info away as plausible and wouldn't be surprised to see it evolve more into something solid. But, I also don't want to declare an "aha!" moment just yet and will remain open minded to other possibilities.

I don't think the official story, or the narrative developed from it, makes much sense overall. It doesn't fit.

There's probably some truth to both stories. Maybe even some correlation.

I feel you IU football fans. My alma mater, George Washington, which has always had a pretty mediocre college basketball team, was on the rise after hiring Mike Lonergan, who was a DC native, won the Division 2 basketball championship at Catholic University, turned Vermont into a NCAA tournament team, and was making GW gradually better every year to the point where he brought in one of the best recruiting classes in GW history (one guy is now playing for the Spurs D-League affiliate and is expected to be called up this year) and won the NIT last year. He ended up getting fired a month before the season for verbally abusing players, and GW is back to its old days of barely edging out a win against Harvard the other day. At least the replacement coach you guys have seems promising.

Honestly sad to see KW go because I liked him, I mean back to back bowl appearances isn't anything to complain about with IU football. But Tom Allen was probably the biggest reason we even made a bowl game this season, so i'm definitely ready to see what he can do.
