Clifton Moore and Al Durham have asked IU to release them from their NLIs. Not surprising.

Would like to keep them obviously, but Justin Smith is the one we can't lose.

Sent his inlaws out to do the hatchet job, then plays the classy guy himself.
At least that is what I'm wondering...
But regardless, it would've been nice for him to acknowledge he simply didn't get the job done he was hired to do. Although maybe that is implied with his comments about things he wished he'd done differently. But hey, it was his program... he could've done anything differently he wanted to. In fact, obviously he should have.

I'm still very glad he's gone. It was a long time coming, too long, but it had to happen. I just hope IU doesn't screw up the hiring process and gets it right this time.
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

He's handling it about as well as one could hope and expect. Wish him the best going forward, but the relationship had run it's course.

I think we have a new coach in place by the end of the week, too.

Skipped the meeting with Glass because he was ready to go on spring break...sounds like something he would do. Just like when he didn't tell his players at Marquette he was leaving and they saw it on ESPN.

    Good riddance.

Kravitz' interview with Crean shows it even better... Crean can't acknowledge he just didn't get it done. He thinks what he accomplished at IU was really good. He thinks he lacked 'alignment' and that is what eventually led to his firing.
    Good riddance.

Eh, Crean's a good man. He's just a weird nerdy dude who has a cap on where he can take a basketball program. That's fine. I'm not gonna drag him through the mud. He probably just didn't meet with Glass cause he's awkward as hell.

I'm also not gonna blame him for what his dopey bro in laws said.

Crean knew his time was done, and that says all that needs to be said about whether or not he thought he performed well enough.

Not hearing much Gregg Marshall buzz, mostly due to "fit" concerns. Eventually, some big program is going to bite the bullet and hire this guy and he's going to win a lot.

I honestly think at this point he just stays in Wichita.

IMO, I really at this point would be surprised if Alford ends up being the guy. A lot of chatter about how Glass's one non-negotiable is "off court image" and I don't think Alford will escape the Pierce issue.

Privately it seems that Glass is also telling people an Indiana guy is not important so much as a guy that understands Indiana...Glass it sounds like is still in the process of meeting with as many Indiana high school coaches and folks like that as possible.

Also, Peegs guy saying they definitely think at this point Alford is mostly just coming up so much because nationally it "makes sense".

Donovan stuff has definitely cooled though the guys who have been saying he's coming all along are sticking to their guns.

If I had to guess, someone who we are not talking about right now comes out of left field and ends up being the guy.

Yes, I'm reading the same things you are

Just because we can do it and we don't have anything better to talk about: As of right now, gun to your head, who do you think is the next men's basketball coach at IU?

Of the guys frequently talked about? I think I'd say it'll be Archie honestly.

But I think it'll be someone who hasn't been mentioned yet or at least not in depth. IU I think wants an established guy but who can you poach?

Really nothing more than a guess, but I think it will be Bennett.

I will say this if it is Alford, I'll lose all trust in Glass because of his babbling about the off the court stuff.

Hmmm, I guess my question with both him or Archie is simply, then what would they be waiting on? You'd think if IU's throwing around $5mill+ a year, either one of those guys would already be here.

I think Glass has a process and he's sticking to it, and kudos to him for that. I also think there's probably enough influential people who are in Alford's camp that Glass would **** them off if he didn't at least talk to him.

I'm not saying Bennett is their clear cut top choice, it's just my gun to the head prediction right now.

Next question: Who do you want to be the next IU coach, if we eliminate Alford, Donovan, and obviously Stevens and other pipe dreams from the equation?

Mike White is really growing on me.

He doesn't have the history of consistent winning, but his resume is pretty good IMO. I like what I've seen from his FLA team this year and he's 40.

I like Chris Collins too, but I think that lawsuit that was brought against NU in the fall will hurt him.

I'd also be looking at Enfield really hard.

Here's a question Shaka hasn't had a ton of success at Texas, but I still believe he's a good coach, would you call him?

Really? I don't have a strong opinion on Mike White either way, but that is just not a name I expected to hear.

For the record, I'd go with Marshall even though I don't think there's much of a chance of it happening.

Haha really. I've been watching a lot of Florida stuff the past couple days. I dunno that he'd be my first choice. It's tough to say, like I said I'm really kind of in the mindset that a guy who basically hasn't been mentioned will end up getting the job and it'll be a guy with a pretty solid resume.

Kinda like Sampson's hiring where it came out of nowhere.

Heck even Crean was somewhat of a dark horse.
