    Default Nerlens Noel

Pacers trade: Monta Ellis and #20

    Sixers trade: Nerlens Noel

Sixers clear up log jam at forward/center and add a veteran guard that can play both guard positions on a pretty solid contract under the new cap. Pacers get a forward to pair with Myles Turner and clear the way to sign a point guard in the offseason (also clearing up 8 million in cap space).

Noel probably has more a greater value at this point in his career, and it would suck to ship Monta off to the worst team. But the sixers could take a big step forward with this move.

He has no game outside the paint. Nothing.

The Pacers aren't going to trade Ellis for 2 reasons.

    1) Trading Ellis this soon would mean that Bird would basically be admitting he made a mistake signing him. I don't see that happening.

    2) Even if we did want to trade Ellis, it would be tough to move him. Not because he is a bad player or his salary is to high but because his contract is too long. I don't think teams would want to take him on for 3 more years.

I've always said Ellis + G. Hill + CJ Miles would give us a terrific bench. But we'd have to really SPEND on the starting five. Particularly the PG, SG, and PF positions.

Sixers would laugh this off the phone.

Just like the rest of our power forwards and centers not named Myles Turner.

Noel needs to play Center. He could be a good rim protector and can score in the paint. He is not a PF and has no face up game, IMO. I wouldn't expect the Sixers to take any salary higher than a rookie back. If they wanted to get better, maybe, but do you see any sign they want to get better and win games?

Trade won't work as salaries don't match. Still would like to have Noel.

Salaries don't have to match because cap space. Sixers still have a ton of cap space.

    I would love it.
I am seldom comfortable starting an undersized player with sub-par defensive chops so I'd pack Ellis readily. But considering that Monta likely has negative value to most teams (because of his contract) it would be like getting Nerlens straight up for a late first. That's not happening.
I'd think we'd need to add another real asset or another first. Or more likely we keep Monta and give up the first and something else (George Hill +, or better).
