Default Kobe's Final Game: 60 points

I didn't see this live, just saw the highlights. Really didn't like the guy, but that's an incredible way to go out.

One thing I can't help but notice is the screens that Kobe was getting tonight. Roy Hibbert set some bone-crushing picks.

He set even more completely illegal moving picks.

Shooting the ball 50 times is how everyone should go out. It took him about 38 to finally get going but those last 2 minutes were vintage Kobe. Bravo, sir.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Was it a good game? No. Was it a very fun game? Completely.

Really, a microcosm of Kobe's entire career. Perfect.

60 points at 37 on 44% shooting, outscoring Utah in the 4th including 17 straight points which lead to a winning effort = not a good game.

I know many were torn: should I watch the Warriors or the Lakers. To me it was a no-brainer, Warriors for sure.

I don't think I will ever again enjoy watching a non-Pacer as much as I did Kobe.

Kobe's game yesterday reminded me a lot of Jeter getting that walk off single in his final at bat at Yankee Stadium. Both guys were old, washed up, and on teams that weren't going anywhere......but they were able to rekindle some old magic in their final home appearance to give their fans an unforgettable final moment.

Last night was the closest I've ever seen the internet come to breaking.

The last 3 minutes or so of the game, my Twitter timeline was literally looking something like

I'm far from a Kobe fan (I'm not big on superstars, in general) and I get that 50 FGA is overkill but I have to give it to him. He wanted to go out in explosive fashion and give his fans a final good memory. And he did. So, congratulations

Sort of OT....but did the Lakers really play a game this season?

    or

Did the LA D-Fenders just put on Lakers jerseys and played at Staples Center all season long?

This whole season was a year long 82 episode run of "Farewell to Kobe" Show as opposed to an actual attempt at winning games. The Lakers season notched 17 wins to give them the 2nd worst record in the NBA and the worst regular season record in Lakers Franchise history.

Kobe's Farewell Tour has completely overshadowed how terrible the Lakers played this entire season. I'm not saying that Kobe doesn't deserve any recognition for what he has done....but if it weren't for the whole Farewell tour where every Organization paid homage to him in his last game at whatever arena he appeared at, Laker fans will soon wake up to the realization that this was the worst Laker season in Franchise history.

I am guessing that the Refs swallowed their whistle....but that cannot be a legal screen

Julius Randle literally ran circles around Hayward to prevent him from defending Kobe.

Trust me, every laker fan knows how bad of a season this was. Kobe's theatrics just gave a reason to watch

Smush Parker summed it up perfectly, "Once a ball hog, always a ball hog." Good for him scoring 60, but taking 50 shots is ridiculous. And it really is a perfect example of Kobe being Kobe. If you're not a fan of Kobe, it represents every criticism lobbed his way. If you are a Kobe fan, it represents the love.

It was definitely a moving screen. Anthem is right. Watch the video again but instead of following Kobe, follow Roy. You'll see that the more Kobe scores, the more egregious the screens become.

Yeah....we know that Hibbert can't set screens to save his life. It's not that Hibbert got carried away...it's more that the Refs were more like this as opposed to

But I guess the Jazz didn't care as much as they now have the 12th worst record in the NBA as opposed to being tied with the Wizards for the 12th worst record in the NBA.

Well, yeah, the refs definitely swallowed their whistle. And the Jazz didn't care either. I think that the Wizards were the only ones who cared.

By the way, I've never said that Roy cannot set screens to save his life. After all, we used to have a screen-based offense that worked really well back when in 12-13. Yeah, things were different after that but it did happen.

Smush Parker is a scrub (by NBA standards) who is forever butt hurt over Kobe because Kobe recognized him as such. He's not exactly unbiased lol.

Jordan shot 41 times when he scored 63 against the Celtics in the playoffs. He shot 49 times in a game against the Magic to score 64. Wilt shot 63 times when he scored 100. I'd bet any time any of those games are brought up, their FGA are not.

I do agree with the second part of your quote completely.

And all those instances of examples of hogging the ball. Telling me there's been players out there that have also hogged the ball, doesn't somehow change it to non-ball hogging.

Who cares that he hogged the ball in the final game of his career on a team with a bunch of scrubs that is going nowhere? He actually shot a pretty respectful percentage for his age anyway.

I don't care that he did, I'd expect it from him. But that's why it's such a great microcosm of his career, because he went out in full Kobe mode.

It honestly shouldn't matter when you're scoring at such a high level.

And my point wasn't to say it was or was not "ball-hogging." It was that "ball hogging" seems to conveniently only come up regarding Kobe. Jordan was just as much of a "ball hog" if not more. That's what big time scorers with that mentality do, they shoot the ball. As long as you're putting up the points around an efficient level, then there's not much to complain about.

I agree, putting on a memorable show for the fans and being the best player on the court is a perfect microcosm of his career.
