If you hate blacks enough to write that letter, I'm pretty certain you were never a pacers season ticket holder to begin with...

I don't think protesting the anthem is a good idea or even a relevant one to the cause that's being protested, but the bile in that note is palpable. If you care that much to get that angry, you probably need to look in the mirror and ask yourself why.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

    Division Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
    Conference Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 2005
    NBA Champions 1989, 1990, 2004

I am debating with myself whether or not to close this thread.

As you can see from my previous post, I have a dog in this fight. That might make it seem hypocritical to consider closing the thread when it could be argued that my own participation helped hijack it.

But there are two reasons I am reluctant to do so.

One is that the discussion here is in fact about the Fever. Contrary to some thinking, sports (and the business thereof) is inextricably linked to the attitudes and experience of the society surrounding it. It would be nice to separate some things into sacrosanct entertainment venues - but then if that is the case, why have the holy flag worshiping ritual at the beginning of every game? You have to figure it is either separate (where nothing external intrudes) or it is not (where we honor the nation that makes it possible and people who have been important to society during opening ceremonies and at points in the game). The action of the Fever as a team makes a statement and creates a conversation, and I think we honor that by having a CIVIL discussion here.

Second, I would put huge money on members of the Pacers - if not the entire team - doing the same thing at some point - possibly preseason, not unlikely at opening night. If nothing else, this serves as a rehearsal for what discussion is or is not appropriate because the heat will increase a hundredfold when that happens.

Yeah as politics-free as PD has tried to be over the years, if/when the pacers do this when the season starts I don't know how you can separate the two.

All I can say is they damn well better play up-tempo or the barrage of name references will get real old real fast.

This is very awkward, seeing we used to give Pokey the business when Area 55/G2 would sit behind the Sky bench....

I have a ye olde style Catchings Fever jersey, from back before we had a sponsor. Size M, didn't fit. Still doesn't! I was going to post it for sale on Ebay but thought I'd see if anyone here was interested first. If so, send me a PM please.
