Thread: If the Pacers could choose any one of the Illini guards......

Default If the Pacers could choose any one of the Illini guards......

The Fighting Illini of Illinois had one hell of a year, tying the all time wins list, having 3 players win the team MVP, having all five starters finish in double figures, being the number one college team in the nation from late December to April so the question arises:

If Indiana had the opportunity to choose one of next years draft picks from Illinois, who would you want them to choose?

    or...

Would you rather they not even consider these?

    and...

If one of these players were chosen do you think they would be good individual players, or did they rely on the Illini team too much?

    Sean May.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I think Derron Williams will be the best NBA player of the group, would welcome him on the Pacers, and believe he will be a good player in the league right away.

I would love, love, LOVE to have Williams. He and Tinsley would be an unstoppable PG combo. The problem is, he's gonna be gone long before we pick.

Why would we want Sean May? He would a productive bench player at most..He's 6'9 and isn't very quick and has few post moves.
    Good college player? Sure
    NBA all-star? Not happening

Now if you want a really good big man let's go after Andrew Bogut; He's the white coming of Shaq.

But back to the question, I would choose Dee Brown just because I like his play alot and he has the athletic ability to be a quick Bobby Jackson type PG in the NBA..But I dunno, Derron Williams is a better passing point guard.

But if I could choose any guard in the Draft it would be Rashad McCants/Chris Paul/Marvin Williams

What part of the sarcasm/ smiley do I need to explain?

And I can't figure out why we'd draft a guard.
We either need another swingman/ SF or a backup PF with a low post game.

And this draft might be deep but I doubt that any player we draft will crack Rick's playoff rotation anyway, so the draft talk is moot.

So my real answer is, "trade it for a veteran swingman or low post player."

What do you expect from a mid-round pick? You're saying Bogut, but that's stupid. We don't have a top-3 pick to spend.

If we get a productive bench player out of a #18 pick, then we'll have done better than most teams in the league.

Well, What makes you think the Illini guards will slip to the middle of the draft?

I was just throwing out posibilities..Maybe we can get a refund for Bender.

But we have Bender and he should be worth a 5th pick in a trade....

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Too bad that Roger Powell is a Priest, if he wasn't I would pick him.
    -He has impressive Range
    -Great Rebounder
    -Very Versatile
    -Agressive Defensively
-He gets the Award for the Most Inspirational Shoes

Player I would Never want-Nick Smith

    -His game speaks for itself

Why does it matter if he's a priest?

Yeah, there have been more than a couple ultra-religous basketball players that have been just fine (if memory serves, Dwight Howard, Charlie Ward, and A.C. Green to name a few.)
