Thread: Butler Basketball 2015-2016

    Default Butler Basketball 2015-2016

There is a lot of excitement around the program this year after a surprising 14-15 and a good summer of recruiting. One last go for Roosevelt Jones and Kellen Dunham.

All four 2016 verbal commits signed NLI's this week. I think it is still ranked as the top 2016 Big East recruiting class. Thrown in the transfer Savage and that is huge for the program.

Hopefully a good season this year and the incoming class paves the way to land a transformational type player in 2017. Maybe another local recruit like Jaren Jackson or Kris Wilkes would fit the bill.

Opening game against The Citadel will be on FS2 tonight.

Either Butler is Loyola Marymount east, or the Citadel has a few holes in their defense.

Citadel's new coach pretty much ran that old Loyola scheme at VMI, I assume he brought it with him

clearly, most wouldn't expect it to against a good team, just saying it was a factor in Butler dropping 144

I'm very pleased with the start of this season, especially with Tyler Lewis.

Tyler Lewis is amazing. This is the best offense I can remember at Butler...should be fun.

Nice job by the team to grind out an ugly tough win against a tricky Temple team.

Beating Temple when Dunham shoots like that is a very good sign for what is to come.

It's good to show we can win ugly, especially in tournament settings with minimum preparation. Whoever we play on Sunday will be a very good team. We will need a better performance from some guys, but an extra day off should help.

I think Davis should be in the rotation though. He has been great this year. I'd be fine with an 8 man rotation with Martin, Gathers, and Davis off the bench. Anything less makes me nervous, even if all 5 starters are very good players.

Tried to watch game but work was getting in the way. Did they really only play seven?

Martin & AC looked aggressive on the boards. Will need that if the rotation stays with Davis & Fowler getting limited time.

That zone seemed pretty effective when they put it it out there. Probably a good option to have with the small ball line-up.

Yep. 7 is too few for me. I'm not sure if Fowler is ready, but Davis should be in the rotation. He's a freak and a nice mix-up from Wideman and Chrabascz.

I like Davis too. Nice change of pace skills wise which will be necessary with a lot of match-ups. Not expecting too much from Fowler but hoping he can at least contribute some presence in the paint come conference play.

I was mostly surprised that Ethrington didn't play. Part of me wonders if there was something else going on that led to the short rotation. We're going to need to pay a deeper team against a very long athletic Miami team tomorrow.

Once again, we struggled with length and elite athleticism. That seems to be our kryptonite. With that said, Miami has a nice team. They will win their share of games.

I think it was the ESPN preview I read yesterday. Said Miami ranked 23rd among Division I teams for "effective" height and Butler ranked 224th. I think BU turned the corner somewhat with the 2016 recruiting class in regards to bringing in better size & athleticism.

I like what I have seen from Tyler Lewis so far but still feel like his lack of size and elite quickness leaves gaps. Especially against teams who can combine both size and quickness defensively on the perimeter and can extend pressure out to and beyond half court.

Miami is just a great team. We will struggle with teams like that. Miami is a championship contender, and we're not.

Rosie Jones with the game winner in his 7th year of eligibility! that's a really good win, should get em ranked again.
