Thread: Future of the Keeper Leagues

Default Future of the Keeper Leagues

Hi all, I hope you're still checking out this PD thread. I've had discussions with Jake (Dr. Badd) about the future of the keeper leagues and neither of us were optimistic about the IKL or even the ABA Keeper League making it this year. With his permission, I've created the ABA Keeper League at sports.ws and I'd be very happy if we could continue playing with our teams that many of us have built with the future in mind. The password is peanutbutter. I'm not sure what is going on with the IKL, and rosters haven't even been posted yet, but If that's running again I'd love to participate.

With that said, if either league fails to start then I'll create a new keeper league with the same setup (9 keepers, no salary cap, 12 roster spots, same scoring system, etc.). I'm excited about James' new salary cap league (and we're currently looking for two more owners), but I thought that offering a keeper league that wasn't as intensive or demanding could be a good way to keep us playing together. It could also hopefully bring back some owners that were apathetic that their teams weren't in a position to contend.

What do you guys think? Would you participate in a new league, or do you think the existing leagues will make it?

Zallen has my support here. We can either keep the rosters from our ABA teams last year, or move to restarting the league so that league parity is reborn. This would obviously be dependent upon a vote by all owners in the league.

I would like to continue with the ABA KL rosters we had, if possible.

First... I'm game again for the upcoming season, even though I won't end high in the rankings due to a massive rebuild (which I actually like the most about KL's, but ohwell). Secondly... IF possible I would like to keep my rosters+picks intact. Lol. I've assembled a nice number aswell as quality of picks and I have conciously taken down my pretty good team drastically to go through the lower reaches of our KL this past year. I hope that wasn't for nothing.

Lets see whose interested still in both KL's. IF our KL has a lot more returning owners I would propose to disband the IKL if it's not realistically survivable and integrate the open spots here with some enthousiastic owners from that league.

Hi guys, sorry about the silence re: IKL.

I'm starting a new job very soon, one that will make it very difficult for me to get the IKL started. If somebody wants to step in as commissioner, I would be happy to pass off the resources needed to start the new season again.

I may still be able to continue in the AKL, however.

I've just send Frost a PM to ask about the current Commisioner and general situation in the IKL. IF things are unchanged from last August I think we are going to have to see how many holes we have in our own KL and ask each of the previous seasons IKL owners (who don't allready own a team in our KL, duh )if they want to join our KL... That way IF things are as bad as they look now for both KL's we can at the very, very least salvage and retain one...

    Thoughts?

Does anyone know Frostwolf's outside-of-PD e-mail address. If I'm going to do this, I'd like to get started as soon as possible and find out how many replacement GMs I'll need to recruit.

Ok. We have past the october 4th deadline for the old owners to register. Old owners can still register, but there comes a moment that one or more will lose their spot if they decide to register their team 'late'... Just saying...

I still haven't heard from four previous owners in the IKL. Part of the problem, of course, is that the Pacers' season hasn't really begun yet. A possibly larger obstacle to reaching some of these absentee owners is that they may not have Pacers Digest accounts (registration for new members is currently broken). Three of the four owners I haven't heard from are, as far as I know, not PDers. Since I have no other contact information outside of their basketball.sports.ws usernames, I don't know how likely it is that I'll hear from them before the deadline I've set (9am EST on 10/7).

We might need to post a general recruiting thread for both leagues in the main forum. Many of our users are not privy to the discussions and hand-wringing going on in the sub-forums - some of that is the result of their inability to read these threads (as they are not public like the rest of PD), while others I'm sure are just overlooking the section due to how infrequently it's used. I'm trying to find workarounds and ways to deal with this, but with little claimed success.

A general recruiting thread would serve two purposes: 1) alerting old, unresponsive team owners that the season has begun, and 2) allowing both leagues to recruit potential replacement players for this season and beyond. Generally speaking, Pacers Digest is in dire need of new blood, and the fantasy leagues are suffering from this absence, not to mention declining participation from old members.

This is a good idea LG33, others have a fantasy thread with mainly yahoo league talk, so I see no harm in a recruitment thread in the main forum for the keeper leagues.
