No to be insensitive, but this kid is the next Max Hoetzel. He'll ride the bench for a year, get recruited over, and "voluntarily" transfer.
Maybe, but I thought Crean took criticism for ignoring in state kids and "chasing the stars". This is a knock down shooter who plays in Indiana. He has good size and can fill it up. Like you said, he is a project, but you need a few blue collar kids on your team IMO.

Or he could be the next Matt Roth. Hes a project thats what you can do when you have 4 of your top 7 players returning and 6 scholarships freeing up. You can take on a project or 2.

Now if at least 4 of the next 5 aren't in the top 150 we are in trouble. We are in really good shape with Curtis Jones, Bruce Brown and Deron Davis.

To me those are 3 we will need to field a complete team next year. Then give me two of the Leaf, Maker and Alkins sweepstakes and I will be happy hell realistically i would be happy getting 1 of those guys.
I am admittedly extremely cynical when it comes to IU basketball under Crean.

Oh yeah hes worthless, but I wouldn't mind him getting some players for the next coach. Assuming the new coach can keep them from transferring.

I've criticized him heavily for this. Admittedly, I know very, very little about this Grant kid but I'd also be willing to make a healthy bet that he doesn't spend 4 years in Bloomington.

Who cares? We don't need money, we need better players (and coaches).

Meanwhile, Michigan football got with the times and not only ditched a coach who wasn't winning enough, but switched to a BASKETBALL brand to help sell their image. What they've done is what an elite program does to put itself back on the map. IU basketball is always going to be that one blueblood, managed by morons, that can never get out of its own way and always flounders in mediocrity, yearning for the old glory days.

Oh, and there's a reason Adidas paid so much. It's because everyone realizes how inferior their products are compared to other brands and jumped off that sinking ship. They had to beg IU to stay with them and IU, managed by morons, agreed to help them rearrange the deck chairs.

I really disagree with this mindset that if we jump to Nike we'll get better players. I don't think that works at all and if a kid is going to pick a school over us because he likes Nike more then fine.

Well then be prepared to miss out on a lot of top recruits then, as if having Tom Crean as coach didn't repel them enough.

I really think the fact we haven't won a NC in these kids lifetime and haven't been to a FF since they still had training wheels on their bikes has more to do with our recruiting struggles than what shoes we wear.

IU doesn't seem to be recruiting him hard so I'd guess Butler

huh, some online Butler fans don't think they're in with Gordon anymore either, talking about LSU and Arizona State, seems like all the state schools backed off for whatever reasons

IU and Louisville agreed to a multi-year basketball and football series. The basketball part starts in 2016, but the football part doesn't begin until 2023!

Maybe getting an up close and personal look at how an athletic department should be run will rub off on Glass.

Ok gotta win him over so he just cancels those visits. Having him commit would be huge.

TJ leaf is visiting on the 10th. Would be great to show him a potential lineup of him, Cujo, Rojo, Bryant and any number of 4s.

I used to follow IU's recruiting religiously but I just don't care anymore. Crean has made me apathetic about IU basketball.

    Is this anything?

    From a different article:
    http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...closer-to-home
    ...
Newkirk had microfracture surgery on his left knee on May 6, and was expected to be ready for the upcoming season after sitting out a majority of the offseason. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.7 assists in nearly 21 minutes per game last season, and was expected to continue to be the Panthers second-best option at the lead guard position behind James Robinson.
    ...

I am compared to what I used to be. I mean I'm still a more dedicated fan than most but I don't follow the ebbs and flows of recruiting like I used to. I'm not particularly excited about IU basketball this season, even though we are going to be in the preseason top 15.

We know what Crean's ceiling is and it isn't a championship. He only made it to the Sweet Sixteen with two top five picks!

There is no reason to get excited about any season as long as Crean is coach because we know the team will underachieve.

Sums up my view of IU hoops perfectly.
