A difficult year got a little worse Monday, when Chiefs assistant coach Adam Zimmer was cited for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after crashing his car Sunday night.
According to the Kansas City Star, Zimmer was involved in a one-vehicle crash last night around 9 p.m. Police said he was the only passenger in the car.
Zimmer’s the son of Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, and is a defensive assistant and assistant linebackers coach for the Chiefs.
Head coach Romeo Crennel said Monday the team was aware of the incident.
“That is being investigated and we don’t have all the facts about that,” Crennel said. “We’ll gather the facts as well as the NFL and we’ll see where that leads us.
“We don’t condone DUIs. That’s not the right thing to do. Everybody knows that educating people about the hazards of driving under the influence is really what . . . needs to get done. You do that to the best of your ability and then people have to make their choices.”
Crennel said Zimmer’s status for this week hasn’t been determined.
After a 2-13 season which included the suicide of a player after he killed his girlfriend, this is the last thing the Chiefs need to deal with.
