It's going to be an exciting October.
It's going to be an exciting October.
Still pinching myself to make sure it's real.
These games today will be exciting. Sunday will be a sports bonanza for me. Colts-Packers, Manning-Brady, then Yankees playoffs.
Hoping my Cards can take care of business, 12 in 2012 hopefully
This whole one game playoff thing is certainly a bit weird. It's going to be a crappy feeling for the team that loses.
Hope it's exciting.
It's also weird that the high seeded teams have to open their series on the road, I.E. Reds going to SF and Yankees going to Balt/Texas. I don't know how I feel about that. I think the 2-2-1 method was a great way to do it. I feel that the team with the better record earned the right to open the series at home and gain the early momentum.
That Time call has me fuming so bad right now
Forget Phillip Seymour - Buck is The Master
Baltimore will be a tough out. I'm worried. This should be a very exciting series between the O's and Yanks. Camden Yards is going to be rocking on Sunday.
I'm not surprised that Texas lost. Baltimore is very good. Plus it had to be hard for the Rangers to quickly get over losing the division after leading it all year. This game was predictable.
Albert Pujols goes to the Angels, who don't even make the postseason. Yet the Cardinals just keep trucking along without him.
Three issues I have with the "controversial" call from last night:
First, it's called the INFIELD FLY RULE and they called it in the OUTFIELD. To me, anything beyond the base path, where the infielder has to leave his defensive position to travel towards the outfield to make the play, that rule is no longer valid. I know that's not the way it is being interpreted here, but that's the way it SHOULD be.
Second, even when it's used correctly, the rule is on the books to benefit the runners, not the fielders. Clearly that wasn't the case here.
Third, when a team chooses to play under protest, as the Braves did, the MLB rule states that team has 24 hours to file a formal written protest. Period. There is no provision for this new wild card play in game. Meaning that MLB didn't address this situation specifically. After the game, Joe Torre ruled immediately denying the Braves protest and therefore their chance the file the formal written protest. Basically Torre made up a new rule on the spot addressing this new wild card situation because of the timing involved.
Now, having said all that, do I believe that this call cost the Braves the game? No, I don't. Continually failing to bat runners in scoring position in and allowing three unearned runs is what lost them the game.
I don't have a problem with the infield fly rule being used when it's on the fringe of the outfield, but this was way past that point, and the call came much too late.
As a cards fan I really don't feel that bad. The Cards should have been up 6-1 at that point. Even a grandslam leaves them with a lead.
I wouldn't feel real bad either. Like I said, I don't think that call is what cost the Braves the game. It was still a bad call though. The guy was 100 feet into the outfield for Pete's sake.
I'm a big fan, but switching to the Cards/Nats game immediately after that crazy Colts game I get the complaints from the haters.
Sabathia pitched like a great ace last night. 8 and two-thirds innings with just 2 runs allowed.
Ichiro got his first big postseason hits for NY. Got two hits, each yielding an RBI.
Cincy looks like they have the Giants on life support.
What a garbage ****ing loss for the Reds. Rolen, you picked a ****** ****ing time to make an error. Wild pitch horse ****. That pisses me off. The Giants ****ing suck.
Be careful what teams you deem garbage. If they upset your team you just feel worse. And lets be honest no team in the playoffs is garbage.
I won't feel worse if them upset the Reds because I have deemed them garbage--I think they are. I thought their World Series winning team was garbage, frankly. Catching fire at the right time means everything in baseball. See: Cardinals last two WS wins, Giants in 2010, etc. That loss just pissed me off.
My Cards are well poised to take the series from the nats. So happy. Go Giants wear that Reds bullpen out
