I just read on another Pacers board that Freddie might start at point guard tonight

I just read on another Pacers board that Freddie might start at point guard tonight

I don't see any reason for that, since there isn't anything wrong with AJ (health-wise that is).

Hey, I'd be all for it at this point. What do we have to lose? He just better be ready if Sebastian Telfair comes into the game, b/c he is likely to strip him every time if he's not careful.

Where did the person get their info. from?

Jermaniac
03-04-2005, 10:58 PM
Radio,Mark Boyle said it.

Ragnar
03-04-2005, 11:00 PM
I would love to see that. We went on that run last night with him at pg.

Boston Connection Curry was cut today in order to make room for Dale so you can take him off of the injured list. He is now on the former Pacer list.

Are people using the game thread tonight, or the chat? Because I'm really interested in hearing how Dale does, along with Freddie at the point.

03-04-2005, 11:02 PM
Well, there's Dale, back in the Pacer uniform.

Welcome back D. :)

Ragnar
03-04-2005, 11:05 PM
Due to this being Dale's first game in a Pacer uniform in a long time I am thinking of making this game available whether or not we win. Usually I only uh well you know if we win. Let me know after the game if we lose and people still want to see it for Dale.

Not to complain about the west coast trip or anything but is it too much to ask that Basketball games not be on at the same time as F1 qualifying? I mean really is that too much to ask.

Ragnar

obnoxiousmodesty
03-05-2005, 12:02 AM
The end of the second was less than stellar. Freddie is single-handedly keeping the game close right now.

Jermaniac
03-05-2005, 12:03 AM
Damn it we broke down in those last few minutes and are now down 6.

Unclebuck
03-05-2005, 12:04 AM
How many dunks, layups and easy inside shots have the Pacers given up.

I cannot fathom how a team with the talent of the Blazers are 11 games under .500, and of course the Pacers face them right after a coaching change so you know they will play hard.

PaceBalls
03-05-2005, 12:05 AM
Fred is double-handedly keeping the game close along with Reggie.

I can't wait to hear him with his siugnature phrase, "My main thing"

PaceBalls
03-05-2005, 12:08 AM
alot of those dunks were SJ just letting the guy drive right by and have the dunk. I'd like to see him challenge them more.

Good let Eddie run the point and AJ play SG because AJ sucks as a PG

If you think Eddie Gill is any better you're crazy.

Gill and JJ are two of the worst passers I have seen in a long long time. (for a point guard and a small forward)

Watch how many times JJ's post passes are picked off. I would hate to put a % on it.

Ragnar
03-05-2005, 12:14 AM
Calling Able are you up? If so I sent you a little clip of that putback and the dunk. It is at the same place as last time. You might need to give it 2 or 3 minutes but it should be there very soon. It is pretty small.

Ragnar
03-05-2005, 12:16 AM
If you think Eddie Gill is in any you're crazy.

any what? Better than AJ yes most of the time he is. AJ has games from time to time where he plays well and Eddie has games where he plays like total AJ. But overall I think Gill is slightley better.

What I really want is Freddie to replace AJ as the backup pg and let them both fall out of rotation. (AJ and Gill that is)

P.S. I agree about JJ's passing it is really bad. But he is a second round selection after all. He is a pretty good defender, rebounder and shooter when he is not affraid to just shoot the d@mn ball rather than this tenative crap.

Does anyone else feel like when Jermaine has been on the floor lately, it doesn't take long until we slip back into 'stand around and dump it in to JO' mode?

It seems to me that lately our second unit has been more balanced and mcuh more athletic. I HATE to see my boy JO out at all and definitely HATE to see him hurt, but this might be a good opportunity for Rick to let our athletic boys run.....

Sure felt GREAT tonight!!!!

Put a different kind of offense that isn't post-up focused together with better physical presence and better rebounding on both ends of the floor and that equates to more offensive possessions, by way of second chance possessions and limiting the other team to one shot.

More offensive possessions and limiting the other team's possessions means that we don't have to shoot lights out to win games.....

My feeling is that we can compete with the team we put on the court tonight.

I'm hoping that the rumors can be true and we can get Ronnie back. Add him into the mix, and we can dominate teams.

Get used to playing the type of ball we did tonight and then get JO back, not slipping back in to the lazy, JO only offense and this team is one that nobody wants to face in the playoffs......

Of course, this is just one game....It could all fall apart tomorrow!!

I'm definitely encouraged for the opportunity to force the offense to NOT rely on JO, no matter how good he is! (And he IS freaking good!!) It can only make us stronger......

I know what you are saying I was thinking the same thing and smacking myself at the same time. There is something wrong when our entire team is built to play one way but we play another way because we have a dominant big man. And that dominant big can play the other way (not to mention he would prefer it)

What I want to see it for us to play this way with J.O. Let him get out and run too.

EXACTLY!

I think Rick is being too closed minded in the offensive sets he calls. No offense intended to Rick; I think he is doing a great job, and I would rather have him than any other coach in the NBA. I do, however, think that he is a little too conservative in his play calling. Last year was the same way (Artest and others had problems adjusting and said so, loudly), but this year he seems to want to script the entire game.

I'm sure that is the way that Bird wants it too; unemotional, calculating, kind of boring, but effective half court basketball. I realize that offense got us to 61-21 last year, but it still didn't get us all the way.

These statements are the reasons that I'm trying to look at JO being out in a positive light. There's nothing really positive about our best player and team leader being out, but it may shake things up a little. If we can show Rick that we can play with emotion, and feed off of it, we may be better than worse for it all.....

I don't feel I'm alone in saying that when we get turned loose to attack the basket like Fred was doing tonight (heck, even Eddie Gill was taking it to the hole!!) it only feeds our intensity on the defensive end and gets the other team in 'oh ****' mode.....If we are playing on pure adrenalin, we can run and hang with anybody.....

I have been a vocal critic of some of the things Rick does. He is still a great coach and I often get jumped on when I am critical. But in all fairness the style of play is not why we did not make it all the way last year. It was the injuries to Tinsley and Oneal.

I do wish he would let them get out and run a bit more. Jamaal is clearly capable of that and it looks like Freddie can too. If he does the right thing and make Freddie the starting pg from here on out until JT gets back and then makes him the backup pushing AJ completely out we would be even more suited to run that type of O.

True on all counts, my brotha....

I will vote yes to starting FreddieJ until JT comes back....

It would be nice to continue this conversation with other input...I think everybody has abandoned the game thread....

Ub and Hicks are still up. We need to just confine ourselves to one thread since there are only 4 or 5 of us.

*Edit. I am only up because I am encoding the game and I am waiting on it to get done so I can upload it to well someone so that some theoretical people can see it. Whats your excuse?
