Jerry Colangelo confirmed that Kyrie Irving will be invited to the Team USA minicamp this summer.
“You can be assured that he’ll be one of the invitees,” Colangelo said. “He’s already established himself as one of the top three or four point guards in the league.”
Irving will join about two dozen players at the end of July in preparation for the 2014 World Championship.
Colangelo is predicting about six players from the 2014 World Championship team will play in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
“As I think about it, to keep this system going and for the young players to aspire to be on that national team in the Olympics, you need to have half a roster turn over each time,” he said. “This is going to be primarily from the group we had last summer from the Select team and some additions. We’re still up in the air exactly who, but it’s all about getting people prepared and ready and moving up the ladder.”

Kyrie is getting invite, I think PG should, of course. It is only a matter of time until he is considered a top 5 wing in the league.

I think it's pretty much inevitable. I don't think his offense really translates to FIBA ball all that well but his defensive versatility unquestionably does.

He'd probably take Iguodala's place.

Your right, especially if they talk Mike Krzyewski into coaching again. He will reward young guys with playing time if the play hard on defense. Andre Iguodala got playing time while Danny rotted on the bench when they were on the team together because he played defense

Yes. http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/category/usa-basketball/

"Paul George of the Pacers, an Eastern Conference [All-Star] reserve and one of the rising young stars of the game, is also expected to be asked to play."

If Lebron and Melo and Durant are all on the team I find it hard for him to get meaningful minutes (unless they play him at 2), but I bet at least 1 of them won't play.

They won't. I would be very surprised if any of the top 10 on the 2012 Olympic team (Paul, Kobe, LeBron, Durant, Chandler, Melo, Westbrook, Williams, Love, and Iguodala) will play on the 2014 World Championship team. Neither will Wade, Howard, or Bosh.

Harden and Anthony Davis, however, will play, I believe. I think Blake Griffin, who made the Olympic team but got hurt, will play as well. But those 13 player I mentioned above leaves plenty of spots open for players such as Irving and Paul George. I think not only will George play, he'll start.

Irving, Harden, George, Gay, Davis looks like it could be the starting five. Last world championships we had Rose, Westbrook and Durant, next years lineup doesn't look nearly that good.

I hope PG plays great, so he will be a lock for the 2016 olympics.
