Jared Wade: Pacers Hand Knicks Worst Defeat of the Season

The Pacers have laid down some good ol’ fashioned beatdowns this year, but none
have felt as one-sided or as significant as the axe murder they put on the Knicks
tonight. It was over before it started, as Roy Hibbert made his first three shots and
the rest of the team followed suit, jumping out to a 30-18 first-quarter lead and
never looking back.

“It is a bloodletting here in Indiana,” said Knicks broadcaster Spero Dedes, who at
one point called the score “hard to believe and tough to explain.”

Really, games like this happen to almost every team every year. When it rains it
pours and the Knicks just had no energy, execution or, seemingly, will to compete
during what was their first game since February 13. They got punched in the gut
right after the opening tip and their only attempt to make this a game came from
a heave-and-hope offense that launched three-pointer after three-pointer hoping
that a ball would bounce their way.

It never did, and looking at the punt-looking attempts Jason Kidd was tossing in
the general direction of the rim, it was no surprise.

Indiana simply out-physicalled New York and the Knicks wilted, allowing an active,
energetic Pacers defense to dictate the force turnovers, push the tempo and create
easy buckets. And the nonexistent Knicks defense served as the perfect canvas for
a precise, confident Pacers offense to paint its masterpiece. It was a thing of beauty
to behold on both sides as Indiana seemed to simply wait for the first sign of
weakness and then react like a rottweiler. (© AZ)

Getting past the actual happenings on the court, this was a loud message.

It’s cliché and all that, I know, but coming out of the All-Star break like this is
nothing if not a statement to the rest of the conference.

Everyone believes that the Heat will enter the playoffs with the number-one seed in
the East, which makes spots two and three the coveted positions. New York and
Indiana, in that order, currently hold down those seeds and both teams are trying to
avoid the four spot — and, thus, a second-round date with Miami — like a truck stop
toilet seat.

It likely won’t come...CONTINUE READING AT 8p9s (http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.com/2013/02/post-game-grades-it-is-a-bloodletting-here-in-indiana-as-pacers-hand-knicks-worst-defeat-of-the-season/)

Dan Feldman: Brandon Knight Suffered Two Injuries in One Game

Brandon Knight injured his right knee late in the third quarter of the Pistons’ win over
the Bobcats last night, and he surprisingly returned in the fourth quarter. But after just
45 seconds back on the floor, Knight suffered an ankle injury that knocked him from
the game for good.

Knight, via David Mayo of MLive (http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2013/02/detroit_pistons_brandon_knight_25.html):

"I think I was just trying to compensate and wasn’t really ready to go back
out there, just wanted to," Knight said. "God found a way to sit me down."

"As a competitor, you see your team’s in a close game and you always
want to play, especially when you have an opportunity to close. You just
want to finish the game."

Of course Knight wanted to play. Few reach the NBA without the obsessively
competitive mindset that allows players to train for hours and hours day after day,
and there’s no doubt Knight has that mentality. But it’s the Pistons’ responsibility to
protect Knight from himself without dimming the flame that keeps Knight working
hard and improving.

So why did Lawrence Frank re-insert Knight?

"He was a go," Frank on reinserting Knight after the initial injury. "He was
cleared by our staff. They said, ‘If you’re going to use him, use him now.’"

It sounds like that should have been a warning sign. If sitting for a few minutes
would have rendered Knight unusable for the rest of the night, maybe he should have
just been pulled. Even....CONTINUE READING AT PISTON POWERED (http://www.pistonpowered.com/2013/02/brandon-knight-after-suffering-two-injuries-in-one-game-i-wasnt-really-ready-to-go-back-out-there/)

What did I say before? If Lance is driving to the basket and the defense collapses on him......if you are left open....get ready for a pass and to shoot..cuz he'll not only see you...but he'll get the ball to you.

daschysta
02-22-2013, 08:35 PM
Man, we're really playing with a purpose. I think we're in for a great, great 2nd half of the season. The starter's chemistry is sooo good. I don't think that switching Danny for Lance will hurt anything, but we can be flexible. I don't think Danny Starting the game and subbing out after 4-5 minutes to give Lance some overlap with the starters would be a bad idea. But all options, including Danny being a super 6th man have to be on the table at this point. Luckily I don't really think Danny would have a problem with it given how we're playing.

Nuntius
02-22-2013, 08:41 PM
who the hell is this Croatian guy? I've never heard that name

To answer your question now.

Viacheslav "Slava" Kravtsov is a 6'11 (closer to 7'0 than 6'10, though), 250 lbs Center. He is 25 years old and he is known for his defense. He wasn't a big name in Europe (the Ukrainian league is a low-profile league) but he has enough size (big, wide, thick) to provide big man depth.

Aron Baynes was a significantly better pick-up, for example. Still, not a bad player to have. He isn't anything special but he will bang inside and grab boards.

Horrible FT shooter as you can see, though.

I hope that this helps :)

The one thing I really like about OJ is that he doesn't seem scared of contact. He goes in hard after offensive boards and he is not shy of taking contact when going up for a lay-up.

I've noticed OJ coming on the last handful of games. I was saying somewhere yesterday that he is playing with great confidence and with the veterans around him, he may be able to maintain that confidence. I think he will be the extra dimension off the bench come playoff time.

At this point I'm pretty sure the Pacers could take the 24-second violation every single possession and still win the game.

Coach Vogel doesn't want to encourage sloppy play by his starters, or anyone for that matter.

Okay...heading to dinner.

The last time I did this while the game was on.....the Pacers were up by 4 against the Raptors...I then come back and I find that the Pacers are in OT and lost the game.

We are up by 38 now...we better win this game when I come back.

PGs turnovers are going to be the death of me and my fantasy team

And possibly the death of this team in a playoff series. I hope it's just a lack of focus because it's a blowout. Basically it's due to PG being so unselfish and passing when he really is open.
This team has an extremely high level of confidence right now. Are you worried Miami? You better be.

Maybe somebody can find a site where this is easily calculated--but I'm thinking that if you added up the numbers of our draft picks (PG 10 + Lance 40 + Hibbs 17, etc.) and compared it with the starting 5 of the rest of the league, we would have easily the highest of the teams with the best record. Can anyone help with that?
