Well thanks. Hoped they'd play, I'll just focus on the newcomers.

D.J. Augustin is already starting at the point! 5 years, $40 million - what a waste!

impossible to find listed anywhere on the nba.com site. Not sure if it's even supposed to work, but it does.

EDIT: Believe it works with an nba.com account, but not entirely sure. Can anyone verify?

It really does suck when your lone strem doesn't work :(

Guess I'll follow some through nba.com play by play

One thing is for sure to me in 5 minutes of observation. Ahearn has no chance of making this team.

Pendy just hit a pretty decent range jumper.

Stiemsma just owned Pendy at the rim.

Is that what you called it. So far he's been awful.

I'd follow along the rest of the night but I'm DVR to watch later. Too much stuff going on all at the same time. I didn't even want to watch any of it, but it's hard to kick the rock stone cold. So I just did a little 6 min taste. ;)

Well, it was the first possession of the game for the Pacers. And I did say "attempted".

Looks like PG has a lot of cutesy in his game still.

OJ had a nice defensive play blocking Brandon Roy's shot attempt.

Even if he's a bit off I'm liking Paul's aggressiveness

Probably the most amazing thing about that half is that Tyler played 13 minutes and only took one shot

I wasn't sure that we were going to use that thread as a game thread so to be sure I created this one.

Young and Augustin played well, I thought. Plumlee looked okay. Everyone else was less than stellar.

Minnesota had some nice passing relatively speaking but so did we at points last year. We seemed to be moving alot more which gives me hope. Passing gets tougher when you are being guarded well. This was an expectedly painful outing, though I think our bench was playing most of their starters.

I was just being a smart a** about Tyler's game.

Overall I'd say that Green, DJ, Young, Ian and Plumlee all looked like people that will be playing 10-20 minutes for the Pacers. Lance and Tyler looked like guys headed toward the outside looking in. Tyler got some padding on easy def boards but failed to ever show a real advantage over people, and Lance just looked sloppy. BTW, I couldn't get over how awful Tyler's footwork was. That travel in the 1st was just terrible, way out of control.

It was obvious that the Pacers wanted to test Paul, Green and Lance early on and really pushed them to be the primary creators, leaving DJ to the wing on many plays waiting for 3PAs. Paul showed skill getting to the rim but as always he seems one step or move away from a clean completion. Green had that brilliant hesitation dribble that opened him up for the monster dunk. But Lance really didn't show the creation/scoring skill that we've been waiting on.

For example, on one of his early drives to the lane he made a pass to DJ in the corner. The problem was he was off his feet ala Fred Jones and got lucky that Minny didn't read that lane better. Later he struggled to hit a clean pull-up off the same type of drive. So what I see is a guy that doesn't threaten me. He's not hitting the pull-up and I can get him to commit to a pass that I can hawk for the steal.

Lance showed no skill that exceeded what it appears Green and Paul can do.

Young's spin for layup was as high quality as you can ask for. He was a bit aggressive on defense at times but appears to be able to dial that back. I thought his interaction on the offensive end was just the right amount, not too dominant or passive.

Mahinmi showed great instincts on both ends and looks like a high quality big in how he plays. But he's obviously too aggressive on defense and the fouls are going to kill him. He also isn't exactly Dale Davis hands either. But he's a much more solid and athletic big than Lou was.

DJ was classic DJ, terrible at containing JJB but a gifted passer and offensive controller at the other end, as well as showing his 3pt range effectively. I accept that he'll be poor on offense. Hopefully Ian can cover for him more without fouling.

Plumlee was interesting to me. I'd like to see more of him. I'm a long way from eating my words though.

I thought when we signed Young it was a big negative for Lance. They are nearly opposites in play styles and I think young will end up suiting the team better assuming DJ and Green address our bench scoring/creation needs. I think it is inevitable Young ends up the 4th wing over Lance. He has playoff experience and be another great wing defender.

It certainly seems like the writing's on the wall for Lance now that Larry's gone. We bring in Ahearn and Gaines as the 3rd PG as well as adding 3 wings in the offseason. Even though he's nominally the backup 2, it certainly seems as if the team is planning for him to fail.

It's too bad. He really seems to have made some positive changes , grown up, and matured quite a bit. The on-court stuff just isn't working out. I'm beginning to think his only real path to success is as the best player on a bad team. Hell, he might have averaged 16, 5, and 5 playing for Charlotte last year.
