Before every Pacers game, I play the same game on 2K5 to get pumped for the game. Usually, the results are not that close, but its a fun way to get pumped up and familiarize myself with matchups. For example - last game vs. Boston, Indiana barely won in OT. I try and make everything to be like the real game (lineups, arena, etc) except for the quarter length (shorten it to 2 minutes).

So tonight, of course, I have already played the game vs. Minnesota. Here is the recap - this one doesn't see, too realistic:

At the end of the first the score is IND up 13-5. Highlights include a dunk from Freddy.

Halftime: all tied up at 18 a piece. So far Fred is 5-5 with 12 pts and Spree is 3-4 with 7 pts.

At the end of the third, IND takes a 29-22 lead on a last second beautiful move from Cro.

Game Over! Victory! The Pacers really played well in the 4th behind Fred Jones and Scot Pollard to take a commanding 44-32 win.

Fred Jones is your player of the game with 17 pts on 7-9 shooting.

I plan on posting results for future games as well - does anyone else do this? :)

Yeah I do this with Colts games on Madden 05 and with Pacers games on NBA Live 05.I played the Indy-Minny game and I had it on the 2nd hardest difficulty level and we got stomped 65-45.I played 5 min quarters.David had a nice game and so did Tins but it wasn't enough for the fully loaded Wolves (Funny we have never said that about us this WHOLE season) I did play in the retros that the Pacers will be wearing tonight also. Are the Wolves wearing any?If they did I think the only other unis they have are the light green ones from when KG was a rookie.Well hopefully my simulated game doesn't turn out to be true.

How are the ratings on 2K5? On Live they are just horrible. JO has a 78 rating. Then most of the bench has 50-30 ratings.

They are pretty good - I think even Artest is in the low 90's. Some things on the rosters are messed up though: Artest is still in 15 (which is what he was supposedly going to wear this year), and I had to create James Jones.

Can you share your settings for james jones? and edwards? and gill? they arent in 2k5... i may have to create the two new players as well but i have no idea how to set their skills and attributes

Thanks!

The only one I've made so far is Jones. I just used his stats from his profile and estimated his other skills (IE - made defense awareness higher, defense higher, etc).

So is 2K5 better than Live? Im guessing becuase JO has a rating of 78, thats plain horrible.

I haven't played Live yet, but I am pleased with 2K5. $20 is a really good deal for the game.

I do the same thing with Live 05, 3 min quarters same lineups and I signed the 2 new guys, the Final score was 54-30 so mine wasn't that close

reviews are split 50/50 at best. I've been a live player ever since but i found 2k5's gameplay better. Live has the better freestyle moves but overall, in terms of realism, 2k5 hit it on the money. live is fastbreak city even if you adjust the sliders. Plus, the dynasty and 24/7 modes are great. I'd give 2k5 a slim 60/40 advantage though, as i just love both these bball videogames.

Even though I am late posting this, I simulated tonight's game this afternoon.

1st: Bobcats take early lead 10-5
Half: Pacers push it to take lead of 18-14, JJ is 3-3 with 9 pts
3rd: Pacers up 24-20
4th: We're going to OT - Freddy's shot rims out
OT: Pacers victory 33-30. JJ is the player of the game going 5-5 with 13 pts and 2 blks

Not too off from tonight's game :)

With 2k5, you can download roster updates periodically. Actually I think you can do that with just about any sports game anymore.

I played NBA Live for years but switched to the Sega series around 2001. I have no regrets. 2k5 got some mixed reviews but I love it! I've got the settings just right that the games are pretty real. I played the Pistons last night and it was a back & forth battle to the wire. Of course I did win! I'm 22-1 or something silly like that but the games are rarely blowouts. The computer does put up a fight.

Do you have to have XBOX live to get the updated rosters?

I have noticed while playing on Intermediate difficulty level on Live 05 I always blow out the opposing team.I still do it with the lineup we have now. That is why I switched to All-star difficulty level. Also I use the Press Box camera, it is much better than the default camera. It shows the whole court and it makes it easier for passing.

Do you have to have XBOX live to get the updated rosters? I think you do.How else would you get it?I'm asking that as a question is there any other way?

I was asking because I think you can have it hooked up to the Internet while still not being on XBOX Live.

Good question. I just recently purchased an XBOX. I haven't tried to download roster updates on it. I just know you can do it on the PS2. I'm not familiar with the XBOX as far as online options yet.

I thought Live has better gameplay than ESPN since 2004.

btw, I love the all-star weekend in Live 2005. Slam Dunk contest is great.

Hey does anyone know how to tweak the players abilities on Live 05?I want to do this because Fred has no handles and can barley shoot.I think you could do this on Live 04.

GO!!!!!

I just found a player design that another fan made for Eddie Gill and James Jones:

I made some of James Jones's stats a lot better - we now know he can shoot real well and play some good D.

It's fairly simple. Buy the network adapter. If you have dialup Internet, plug the phone line to the appropriate slot. If you have high speed, plug into the other slot.

The game menu should have an online option....dial into the network, save the online roster and you are all set. The online roster is updated.

Time for the game vs. LAC. I even updated the Indy roster, adding Haslip and creating Johnsen (had to drop Bender and Artest to have enough space, but I can pick them back up later).

At the end of the 1st: LAC up 9-8
Half: IND 19-17 Haslip 3-3 with 6pts, Jaric 3-4 with 7pts
3rd: IND 32-25
4th: Its a WIN! IND 46-37 James played great going 6-7 with 16pts, while Marcus shot 7-7 with 14pts in his Pacers debut!

I figured it would be tough without Tins or Cro...hopefully we will take care of LAC tonight!
