View Full Version : What did you get wrong over the last year? Official face palms and failed predictions

It's hard to remember everything but here's a few, I'll have to update later.

The biggest one is Deron Williams. I really honestly believed the Pacers were going to make a run at him. I was wrong 50eleven times a billion.

Also, I suggested that many other teams would be involved in the attempt to sign Deron, but only two went after him. /failure

I predicted the Pacers would go 7 against the Heat. /failure

I predicted the Jazz would beat the Spurs. /megafailure

I don't remember my exact prediction on the Celtics but like many before me I really didn't think they would be as good as they were this past year. /Titanicdoesntevenmakeitoutofharborinsta'splodesint oaballofflames

After Paul had some really good games early on, I predicted he'd lead the Pacers in scoring the second half of the season just like Reggie did in his second season. /faceslamintowall

I'll add more when I think of it. Just reminds me that the majority of my predictions are wrong. As Bill Simmons would say, the lesson as always: I'm an idiot.

A lot of people did that though. Not sure that was ever really a bad prediction. Miami won, but OKC was absurdly talented and I'd still argue the most talented team lost.

Good idea for a thread.

My biggest was thinking Roy would was basically a choker and would never be better than slightly above mediocre.

His offense and confidence have grown significantly, and out of nowhere he transformed into a defensive monster.

I predicted that Hill would get no more then the MLE.
I still think the Pacers were the only team willing to pay him what he ended up with though.

Isn't that the truth. Eventually, the easiest thing to remember is how many times you had to get up to go to the bathroom during the night.

I predicted that Danny would step up his game in the playoffs. He ended the season on such a high note it just seemed like this would occur but then he decided to take a week off from playing and he never seemed to get back on track.

i don't recall if i said it here but, i thought okc would win. with the way they took care of the spurs- i thought they would do it.
but when the finals came, it seemed like okc was just glad to be there and got nervous. i swear harden didn't do much and durant turned into more of a chucker than attack the basket kind of guy.
i was pretty disapointed with okc in the finals. if they had approach the finals with the attitude they had in the wcf- i think they win.

I only remember one prediction, I tend to avoid making hard predictions so it may be the only one, although it could also be because it was a bit outlandish, and I don't remember it exactly. It went something like this:

All 5 starters would average (might have been an about or at least right here) 16ppg (or possibly 14ppg).

I knew it was a stretch, but my premise of all the starters averaging about the same PPG wasn't. We had Collison at 10.4, then George, Hibbert, and West all in the 12 range, and Granger at 18.7. Hill as a starter I believe averaged at least 12ppg.

I thought Hill would move into the starting lineup as SG, not PG.

I underestimated the impact David West would have, especially on the team's overall toughness and also his ability to make plays down the stretch.

I wanted the team to get NENE instead of D. West.

I predicted we'd go 7 games against the Heat

I wanted the team to pay OJ Mayo to be our starting 2-guard this upcoming season (woulda had to overpay)

That we'd start the season on time...

Where do we start?

That Jim O'Brien would get a sniff from an NBA team.

That the Bulls would beat the Heat and prevent LeWade from drowning in their own arrogance.

That Tyler would turn in a decent season and show some progress.

That David West was kind of soft. Wow was I wrong about that.

Well I didn't predict a good year but I never dreamed he would have regressed the way he did. Honest to God even today I wish we would keep Lou & just let Tyler walk.

I thought Boston would represent the EC in the Finals.

Lance Stephenson would play well enough to stick in the rotation. (Predicting this again.)

Spurs over OKC in 5.

Tyler would have a good season after "having an offseason to practice!" :hmm:

I'm sure, at some point, I said the Pacers were gonna win the 2011-12 championship. So I was obviously wrong about that.

But I know we'll win the 2012-13 championship, so get ready for that, haters!! :gopacers:

I thought DC would step up and play a lot better than he did. I was certain he was going to have a pretty big year for us.

I had no doubt whatsoever that Bird would stay and that he'd convince Deron Williams to become a Pacer.

I predicted after a spotless lifetime record I'd finally be wrong about something last year. Turned out I was again right every time. So even when I was wrong, I was right!

I thought Pacers would beat the Heat in 6 before the series started if the refs would just play fair.
I thought Danny would step up more in the 4th quarters in the playoffs, but he proved me wrong.
I was right on the trade for Barbosa, but he proved me wrong with his play in the playoffs, what a disappointment!
I thought DC would become a top 10 PG in the league and he proved me wrong. Not all his fault tho.
I thought Hill is only worth 5 mil per year, but Donnie has proved me wrong.
I thought Hibbert is only worth 12 - 13 mil per but Portland proved to me he is worth Rookie Scale Max.
I thought Brandon Rush was worth more in a trade, but Larry proved me wrong. Atleast we still have Warriors 2015 2nd round pick.
I thought Black Hole Jones would be here yet another year, but Pacers managed to get rid of him...thx Pacers!
I thought a trade would happen on draft day for our pick and a player for another veteran player. What a shame this didn't happen.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I'm missing a few more predictions that I got wrong or sorta wrong cause some idiot had to prove me wrong .

I thought Tyler would be a great 6th man for us.

Indiana in six against Miami.

Deron Williams would actually sign with Indiana.

Larry Bird would around for the 2012-2013 season.
