View Full Version : RoboDoug Outage

I was originally going to write up something funny about RoboDoug being suspended by the league for getting into a fight with RoboCop, but just couldn't work up the energy.

Anyway...

RoboDoug will be unavailable for a while. I have to make some changes so he can handle the new message board software. I'll try to work them in sometime over the long weekend, but I've got a bunch of family coming in so no promises.

I'll post the "Guess the Score" threads by hand. Make your guesses as normal.

Please don't post anything in the "Guess the Score" threads after the game has started. If you do, I have to go edit the database by hand to get rid of them.

Once I've got RoboDoug up and going, he'll process and score all of the outstanding guess threads.

Thanks,

Doug

Oh crap, I didn't even think about RoboDoug with the move. I recall you saying in IS that it wouldn't work there in it's current form.

On the plus side, when I re-wrote him right before the season I tried very hard to separate the part of the code that interacts with the forum from the rest of it. That should make it slightly easier, as everything is pretty much in one place.

Oh, and can one of the admins "sticky" this thread?

I wonder how the robofans would've reacted.

For a moment I thought this thread was entitled "RoboDoug Outrage".

I was looking forward to his angry rant about this whole thing.

If you need any technical questions answered about the VB software please contact me Doug , maybe I can ask some questions to help aid in your quest to make it all work :)

Thanks, I might.

Generally, I do a lot of "view source" of the html to find out the parameters and URL I need to use to login / post / read a thread, etc. For actually pulling out the guesses, I convert the HTML to XML then use several different XML tools to figure out what nodes I need to pull and and parse.

I probably won't start on it until at least this weekend.

I'm very disappointed in RoboDoug. You should never have a segmentation fault and dump your core, no matter what the provocation. On the other hand, I always knew that RoboDoug had memory leak problems.

I guess RoboDoug got that free time he wanted to spend on his MP3 career after all... ;) :D

I made a bit of progress after the game last night. RoboDoug can now log in and out of the board. I started to work on the "post a new thread" bit, but ran into a couple of snags. With all the company coming in, it's not likely that I'll be able to get to it tonight so I posted the next couple of guess threads by hand.

It's looking like RoboDoug is back in business. As soon as I get confirmation from you, Doug, I'll go ahead and unpin this.

Yes, you can unsticky this.

He's *mostly* done. He can't score games automatically because nba.com changed their scoreboard format as well. But, other than that he should work OK. The code is a mess, I hacked it up big-time to get this working as fast as I could. But it works.
