Veterans Jeff Pendergraph and Lance Stephenson, along with first-round draft pick Miles Plumlee and second-round pick Orlando Johnson (acquired in a draft night trade with Sacramento), are among 13 players on the Indiana Pacers’ rookie/free agent roster, which starts camp Thursday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The roster is filled with a number of familiar names: Jarrid Famous, Tyren Johnson and Matt Rogers were all in the Pacers' training camp last December. Chris Kramer, who played at Purdue, Robert Vaden, who played at Indiana before transferring to Alabama-Birmingham, and Notre Dame’s Ben Hansbrough, younger brother of Pacers’ forward Tyler, are also on the roster.

The Pacers will practice six times before leaving Sunday afternoon for Orlando. They begin Summer League play there Monday, July 9, against Detroit at 5:00 p.m. On Tuesday, July 10, the Pacers meet Oklahoma City at 1:00 p.m.; Wednesday, July 11, vs. Boston at 11:00 a.m.; Thursday, July 12, vs. Utah at 3:00 p.m. and Friday, July 13, vs. Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m.

I believe it's going to be on NBATV, and you can pay 14.99 to watch it from your moblie/computer.

Can't wait to see what Lance and Pends can do being the primary options.

People like me I'm sure will still figure out a way to watch it for free. Just like me watching the Pacers w/o LP while in Chicago, the Indy 500, White Sox, you get the picture.

Good to see Vaden get a shot. He played with Courtey Lee in highschool at pike and was without question the best player on an undefeated state champion that was 2nd in the nation only to Lebron's team. I really thought he was going to be a player.

I'm interested in seeing Ben Hansbrough. I like his game for the NBA more than his brother, he seems to read the floor better. Tough to make the Pacers at PG now, but you never know.

Who do you think rounds out the starting 5 after Lance, OJ, Pends, and Plumlee?

Still wish we had found some way to get Machado on this roster..

Thinking Tyren, but Vaden could make a push as well, Tyren was here on the summer team before I believe so he should have a little more experience.

I went ahead and paid the $15. It's my only way to watch, and I like that it'll have on-demand because I will probably be out of the house for at least a few of the games when they're live. I should be able to watch on my iPad, too, which I like.

it's worth it the on demand is really nice I bought it before I had NBA TV. But ever since I got NBA TV I just record them if I cant watch it live.

I will be doing film of all the games.

I was struck by how familiar these quotes from Ben's coach sound:

"But he has a hard time understanding and implementing defensive concepts."

And

“I thought the integration would be quicker. I told Ben that he can’t expect our entire game to revolve around him. At first, Ben thought ‘What do these guys want from me? I’m the Big East Player of the Year! Give me the ball and let me do my thing!’ Because at Notre Dame that’s how it worked: The clock is running down, Ben gets the ball, Ben makes a play – by himself. That’s how he tried to play here as well in his first few weeks, always full steam ahead. But full steam ahead doesn’t work in Europe.”

I really wish Jarrid Famous would do well enough to stay on a roster. Dude's huge, and he's built, but apparently he lacks those offensive/defensive skills, and the intangibles it takes to be a solid NBA player. I guess size isn't everything.

didn't notice that, but fair enough...

i can't remember: was b hans on our summer league team in the past? i thought so, but then i thought summer league was cancelled last year. if he was on the sl team, did he do anything?

marginally related:
i'll admit to not liking t hans as a player, but as a 4th big he would be OK, I think. two things I liked in the Miami series from him: He gave the one solid foul in the series; he walked off the floor without shaking hands after game 6.

partial list of other team rosters

http://www.foxsportsohio.com/07/03/12/Sullinger-others-set-for-Orlando-summer-/landing.html?blockID=755938&feedID=3725

Key players to watchi n the Orlando Pro Summer League, which runs July 9-13 at the Amway Center.

Free agents on rosters are available for all teams to sign prior to the start of training camp. For instance, forward Samardo Samuels played for the Bulls’ summer team in 2010, then signed with the Cavs shortly thereafter.

Rosters for the Las Vegas Summer League will be listed on another post next week.

Orlando Magic

Justin Harper, PF – Second-round pick by Cavs in 2011. Immediately traded to Magic. Spent most of year on bench.

Jeff Pendergraph, F – Oft-injured big man entered league in 2009.

Lance Stephenson, G – Entering third year. Most notable moment came when he gave LeBron the choke sign.

Boston Celtics

Jared Sullinger, PF – Once expected to be selected in lottery, Celtics’ first pick gets first chance to prove detractors wrong.

Fab Melo, C – Taken one pick behind Sullinger (No. 22), has a long way to go skill-wise.

Sean Williams, F – Former Boston College forward. Has NBA stints on resume.

Tyshawn Taylor, PG – Nets’ second-round pick (No. 41) could stick.

Detroit Pistons

Andre Drummond, PF/C – Pistons feel they got a steal by landing the athletic big man ninth overall in draft.

Yancy Gates, PF/C – Cincinnati big man went undrafted but being closely watched by scouts.

Brandon Knight, G – Widely considered second-best rookie guard this past season.

Kyle Singler, F – Second-round pick in 2011 returning from overseas.

Nik Vucevic, C – Seven-footer played in 51 of possible 66 games as a rookie.

Chris Johnson, SF – Dayton standout went undrafted.

Jacob Pullen, G – Stood out in NCAA tournament two years ago with Kansas State. Didn’t get drafted.

This is the most excited I've been about the talent on our Summer League roster since McBob grew out his beard.

The best non-roster spot player on our roster is definitely Reggie Hamilton. The kid is electric. He can get to the rim and finish and he has great range. This is the most exciting name we have had on our SL roster in a while. He is just small for an NBA PG. He could even be the best player on the roster period.

I love that Hamady Ndiaye is also on the roster. This should make Seth happy. I think this is a kid that has size and can provide defense, but he is still a borderline NBA player. He needs to work on a lot, but I am glad to see the talent there. Vaden is obviously a former draftee as well. He could be a surprising player for us.

To be honest, I would look to trade a couple of our players such as Collison and Hansborough for a big upgrade somewhere, and then sign a few of these kids to round out the roster.

I only way I expect to see Price on our roster come training camp is of we trade Collison. I see him signing somewhere to be a primary backup if not.

I really can't wait to see Orlando Johnson. I think he could be our SG of the future with his maturity and work ethic. Praying he is what I think he can become.

wait what Tornike Shengelia is playing??

That is odd I didn't know he was that committed to the NBA he is a poor mans Kris Humphries IMO. I doubt he comes over yet but playing in summer league I would of never guessed he would.

looking forward to Watching Charlie Westbrook heard great things about him from people I trust. Really all those teams have guys I really want to see especially Detroit with Armon Johnson Casper Wear(think there is no shot he makes the team but he is fun to watch) Singler and Kim English playing his natural spot.

Pendergraph's is, Stephenson's isn't. In fact, according to Sham, Lance's contract doesn't become guaranteed until July 15. So this could very well be his last tryout for the Blue & Gold. I think he'll do well though; summer league is a good setting for him to show off his strengths.
