It's not really 13 "positions" that he analyzed, it's more like 13 different types of player profiles. And even then, there's a catchall "one-of-a-kind" profile.
That said, I'd be very interested to see the "positions" our players fall under. It's a potentially useful tool, if a GM (or would be GM!) can take a look at a roster and say, we need a scoring paint protector and a combo ballhandler in there. It's early days yet though, since we don't know yet which combinations are supposed to work. Correlating this with +/- data would be very very interesting I think.
I suspect though, that the basic building block of a winning team are all-NBA 1st team types, just as conventional wisdom states. It would be interesting to see data of past winners to see the extent that this is true.
