Free agent Ronny Turiaf (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3963/) is finalizing an agreement with the Miami Heat (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/mia/), league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.

Turiaf, a 6-foot-10 forward, gives the Heat a strong rebounding and defensive presence as they fortify themselves for an NBA title run. Turiaf is another tough, experienced veteran who will help defend the Chicago Bulls (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/chi/) and Orlando Magic (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/orl/) in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The deal will be announced later Wednesday, league sources said.

“We’re working hard to get it finished up,” Turiaf’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told Yahoo! Sports.

After acquiring Turiaf as part of a three-team deal from the Washington Wizards (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/was/) at the league trade deadline, the Denver Nuggets (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/den/) bought out his contract and he cleared waivers on Tuesday.

Turiaf, 29, has missed most of this season after sustaining a hand fracture in early January, playing just four games with the Wizards. Turiaf averaged four points and three rebounds in 64 games for the New York Knicks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/nyk/) a season ago.

I'm guessing that they'll cut Eddie Curry. What a disappointment he has been throughout his career.

FWIW, Turiaf isn't the "strong rebounding defensive presence" that Woj described him as. He's a below average rebounder, good shotblocker and overall average defender. He hustles and is a good locker room guy. A good pickup for the Heat for maybe 12-15 minutes a game if he's healthy.

This doesn't scare me at all, either way we already got Lou who is pretty much the same guy.

They need someone as they had Dexter Pitman starting at center last night!

Yes, he just needs to be an upgrade over Dexter Pittman. Right now only Anthony, Haslem, and Bosh are worthy of any minutes at 4/5. They have been moving James or Battier to the 4 at times, and so if Turiaf can indeed handle even 10 min vs. good teams, he helps.

No kidding. Do they have 40 players on their roster now? It seems like all these under the radar free agents end up signing with Miami. Is it just me or do 50% of the free agents end up signing with Miami? Where are they all going? Is LeBron burying these guys in his basement?
