Eight Points, Nine Seconds <S>Preview</S> Review:

Jared Wade: Pacers to Tweak Rotation to Make Room for Barbosa

After the Pacers acquired Leandro Barbosa at the trade deadline, I was a
little confused. With Darren Collison, Paul George, George Hill, AJ Price
and, at times, Lance Stephenson all receiving minutes, where did Larry
Bird expect Leandro to fit in.

Well, now we know, according to Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star.

Frank Vogel is changing the rotation. Leandro Barbosa is in as the backup shooting
guard. George Hill is now the backup point guard. A.J. Price is the third point guard.
Barbosa will make his Pacers debut against the Clippers tomorrow. "(Barbosa will
play) anywhere between 15-20 minutes," Vogel said. "He picked up a lot of our
basic offensive sets today pretty quickly. We’ll see how he’s going and we’ll adjust
it when he’s out there."

This certainly makes some sense.

Barbosa has five times the resume of Price and Stephenson so he should
naturally be ahead of them in the rotation. It does mean moving Hill to
the point. He has always been touted as a combo guard who can play both
spots. He filled in admirably for an injured Tony Parker at times in San
Antonio and was so successful that their was a legitimate fan movement
to trade away the more expensive, less-defensive-minded French starter
and hand the team over to Hill. And these aren’t crazy Heat fans who just
starting watching the NBA a year ago. No, these were Spurs fans who
through the osmosis of watching Coach Popovich and Tim Duncan alone
usually know what they’re talking about at least somewhat.

Still, so far in Indiana, when Hill has been at his best, he has played the
two almost exclusively. So it isn’t a question of whether he can handle
shifting over to the point, but whether by doing so, he will lose a little bit
of what has made him the team’s best player off the bench this season
and the MVP of, by my memory, at least 5 of its wins.

Then again, the team is reeling from two tough losses to the Knicks and,
other than that two-game win streak last week, hasn’t had a ton of wins
over good teams to get excited about. Perhaps this is the answer. There
is no question that Barbosa can add some scoring punch to a second
unit that badly needs it...CONTINUE READING AT 8p9s (http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.com/2012/03/pacers-to-tweak-rotation-move-george-hill-to-backup-pg-to-make-room-for-leandro-barbosa/)

CLIPSNATION:

The Big Picture:
The Clippers open a difficult and crucial road back-to-back-to-back today
in Indiana. Not to be overly dramatic, but three games in either direction
in the standing is essentially the difference between third place and 8th
place in the Western Conference right now -- so yeah, this is big. With
the toughest team of the sequence sitting in the sandwich game, and the
weakest team at the end, there could be some strategy to how best to
approach those games. But regardless, one thing is clear -- the Clippers
need to win in Indianapolis tonight. A win here sets up the trip to be from
'good' to 'very good', while a loss might point to 'disaster'. The funny thing
is, were this not the first game of a road B2B2B, we might be discussing
how worn out the Clippers could be. It is, after all, their seventh game in
ten days -- a pace unheard of in a normal NBA season. And while they
have had a day since their last game, they also had to fly 2000 miles on
that day. But relatively speaking, this is the Clippers rested game -- it
starts getting nasty Wednesday and Thursday. The last time the Clippers
played the Pacers, Blake Griffin scored a career high 47 in leading L.A. to
a win. Griffin hasn't had a 35 point game this season -- he had 4 of them
his rookie year. I wouldn't mind one of those right about now.

The Antagonist:
The Pacers, like the Clippers, started the season strong and have leveled
off in the last month. There was a lot of hype around the Clippers, so it's
hard to say that their strong start was completely unexpected, but Indiana
(along with Philadelphia) was one of the real surprise teams of the early
part of the season. But after going 16-6 to start the season, the Pacers
are 9-12 since. The Pacers are among the new breed of deep and balanced
NBA teams -- seven players average at least 9 points per game. The leading
scorer is Danny Granger 17.6 per game, which is quite a bit less than he's
been averaging the past several seasons. Granger appears to be something
of a bellwether for the Pacers this season -- he scores almost 4 fewer points
per game and shoots just 36% in their losses. The Pacers are solid, if
unspectacular, at every position. Roy Hibbert made the All-Star team this
season, David West and Granger are both former All-Stars, Paul George is a
young, long, athletic two...CONTINUE READING CLIPSNATION (http://www.clipsnation.com/2012/3/20/2887462/la-clippers-vs-indiana-pacers-game-preview-the-start-of-a-back-to-back-to-back)

I hate to be *****ing about the refereeing and it may very well be confirmation bias, but...it sure does seem like we're getting more moderate to ticky tacky fouls called on us since the All-Star break. Meanwhile there's at least 2-4 times a game that we get hammered with no call.

I've like the passing out of Hill this game, alot. If he can show the ability to consistently play like a point in this fashion i'm on the start Hill bandwagon. This is coming from a huge Collison defender, who would be an excellent bench player.

Also BARRRRBOOOOOSSSAAAAAAA.

You can see that he's going to be huge for us when we typically go through our stretches of stagnant offense. When our bench plays this well we can compete with any team in the NBA.

Most players as talented as George get drafted to crap teams where they are given the keys.

The Pacers are one of the better teams in their conference, it's natural that George the 21 year old would defer a bit.
