The Importance Of Being Melo

Let’s just get this out of the way right now. Carmelo Anthony, as we know
him and in general, is an overrated product of the 2003 NBA Draft rivalry.
Talented, yes, but overrated with an underline.

If he were drafted in 2002 or 2004, he’d be judged in better balance, but
as of right now, his reputation is based upon the mythology of his high
school career, and how he (impressively) led Syracuse to a title. But no
other player in recent years has been given the superstar label so easily
coming out of the Draft, save for John Wall, who is struggling mightily.
His collegiate championship was well-earned and Olympic success is
clear, but his work as an NBA player is as promising as it is flawed, and
those are the only sides of his coin as a player in the league.

Analysts always talk about his outside shooting sweetness and rebound
rate, which are impressive, but they always fail to mention that he’s
more singularly-faceted than anything. He’s basically the same player
that he was at Oak Hill. That’s a failure in evolution.

So now he’s a star player for the New York Knickerbockers. He wanted
New York and now he has New York in the palm of his hands, and he’s
not capitalizing with his play and the scrutiny is getting to him. He’s not
a great team player. Not that he’s a bad team player, but just that his
play is sub-standard for non-All-Star-laden teams. If you notice, he
shines on Olympic teams, because of his singularity of skills; he’s asked
to shoot/score and nothing else. Also, because he knows that he has 11
other players that rival his skill set, he actually makes it worth a damn
to elevate his play and defer; in the NBA season, because he overvalues
his skills and (in-)ability to actually take over games, he sells out his
teammates by isolating in nearly every single position.

He’s like a Terminator with a bad CPU — he needs reprogramming, but
he won’t go back to Skynet for updates. He’s offline.

In order for the Knicks to survive as a winning basketball team, it must
be clear that Melo starts his game from scratch. Make the right pass,
shoot the good shot, keep the offense in flow, because we now know
that he was breaking the flawed, but effective D’Antoni offense when
Jeremy Lin was inserted...CONTINUE READING KNICKERBLOGGER (http://KnickerBlogger.Net/the-importance-of-being-melo/)

Well, there is no surprises tonight! Knicks was playing horrible ball and was arguably the worst defense in the league until their coaching change. So, maybe Pacers was shocked by it all, who knows. But they know now so get the tough pills out Pacers and we will get the popcorn ready! Pacers, Don't make us choke on our popcorn!!! :D

The Knicks are/were dysfunctional, but not devoid of talent. Maybe the coaching change will pay big dividends for the Knicks. It certainly has for the first 2 games.

NBA officials need to get together and figure out what the **** a foul is in post up situations other than when one of the players flails. DJ kept the same possession the whole time and the foul isn't called until the Melo flail. If he was fouling him, he was fouling for about six seconds.

DC just KILLS the offense on so many possessions. He travis bests for 15 seconds before attempting a terrible PnR, and then the rest of the Pacers use the last 4 or 5 seconds to get off a semi decent shot.

This is where the DC hate needs to stop. That last possession and a great deal of the ****** shots that are taken on offense have to be on Vogel. He is the one calling for a 19-second clear out for DC against a bigger defender. The argument can be that Vogel gets excused because he just isn't at the level right now to be considered a high quality basketball strategist, but he doesn't get a full-on pass.

No you're right, I was about to make that point right before you said something. But you're right. Vogel won't call plays for George, but continues to ask DC to dominate the ball. It's just bad coaching.

DC has some definite strengths, but dominating the ball like he's Nash or Deron isn't one of them. His coach should be telling him to get rid of the ball quick and early in the shot clock.

Edit- Vogel's overall philosophy is great. He can manage people, he has created great chemistry between his players. But he can't coach an offense worth a ****.

I'm not attributing this to Vogel. Melo was trapped on the baseline and PG moved quite a bit to leave Fields to try to double. If Vogel is telling him to leave every time, which is what has killed us this game on D, then I'll eat crow and put the blame on Frank. But to me it's more bad off-ball D from PG.
