Eight Points, Nine Seconds <S>Preview</S> Review:

Jeremy Comstock: Approaching the Trade Deadline (part two)

I’d like to look at the two players that seem to be on everybody’s mind and three
more guys who’s names are being bandied about. As I mentioned in part one I’m
not interested in proposing specific trades, just looking at how these players would
fit in with the current roster. That being said, there’s no one on this list for whom
I’d give up a first round pick.

Chris Kaman
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Kaman would be a good fit for
the Pacers. He’s a big who can score and block shots, thus filling two of the needs
I mentioned in part one. Kaman’s passing is one aspect of his game that often
overlooked, and I believe he could step into the “big man facilitator” role quite
adequately. His per-36 assist numbers are actually higher than Hibbert’s this
season (2.6 to 2.0). Other than his shot-blocking, which is only slightly above
average, Kaman does not bring a lot to the table defensively. When thinking
about Kaman joining the Pacers, it seems like he could be the second coming of
Brad Miller: a big, ugly country boy who plays the game with an odd mixture of
power and finesse. Looking into the future, Kaman is a player who’d likely be
open to re-signing in Indiana for market value, if Bird wanted him back. He’s
from Michigan and seems to embrace traditional rural Midwestern values. If he
ended the season with the Pacers, he’d be a good second option if some team
decided to tender Hibbert an unmatchable offer.

Verdict: Good fit as a talented and versatile big man

Stephen Jackson
Really? If his name weren’t Stephen Jackson, if he had never assaulted fans in
stands, if he had never fired guns into the crisp night air, if he hadn’t quickly
warn out his welcome in every city he’s played in…Then I could see the Pacers
wanting a veteran with his skill set.

Verdict: Larry Bird would rather cut off his left hand.

Jamal Crawford
Everybody in the NBA knows that Larry Bird wants Jamal Crawford, all that
matters now is agreeing on the price (or Price, as it may be). Crawford
definitely fills a need as a shot creator and maker off the bench, and his
defense, at least while he was playing meaningful minutes for a good team
in Atlanta, is not as bad as it gets made out to be. There are valid concerns
about Crawford. He’s a chucker: he shoots a lot, and he generally shoots at
a low percentage. He’s having...CONTINUE READING AT 8p9s (http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.com/2012/03/the-indiana-pacers-approach-the-trade-deadline-part-2-the-first-group-of-candidates/)

Let's hope that we play good and win. A win would be so great, tonight. It would set things straight and we would be ready to see the future on a brighter note.

It's a hard game but we have to come out on top. So, let's win.

Curious to see if Roy steps up against the Nets' Dwight Howard.

Also, stop taking so many three's, that isn't smashmouth, that's Obiemouth.

We are at a crossroads and we need to make some changes. We need to know who are the players we need to keep and who are the ones that don't fit in with us perfectly. I think that Paul George, Roy Hibbert, George Hill and David West are the guys we can't afford to lose as they are the staples to our team.

Everyone else needs to be moved for great fits and talented guys. DC, Danny, Tyler, and our picks have trade value and we have cap space. We need a point guard, a third big, and a scorer in order to be contenders. We need to make it happen...

No... 10 mil for a guy who could average 22, 7, and 2 in 30 minutes.. But doesn't because we share the offense and he differs to Roy this season in the post. I'm just saying, take David West off this team and instead of winning 45-50 games in an 82 game season, we win 38-42 and that's what matters.

He's been pretty aggressive/confident since the all star break. I'm not ready to anoint him as our savior, but I'm sure if we were to trade DG, we'd get back a player or players that would replace his scoring.

Either way, it's pretty obvious who's the teams most talented player, and no Larry it ain't Lance!

Hahah, I mean you can have a differing opinion on David West, and I definitely see where you are coming from. I think that if he was the main post up guy and if we had a point guard who could find him in a pick and roll he could average 22.... And you are definitely right about the wins, however there's a difference between 38 wins in a 66 game season and 38 wins in an 82 game season.

Which is another negative thing towards the Pacers.

Frank and the staff still don't seem to understand the play calling from the Magic, and neither do the players.

They're going to take a three if they can or feed it deep in the post to Dwight.

But every time Ryan Anderson or Redick or whoever is wide open, maybe all of the Pacers have short term memory loss.

Id move anyone but PG at this point. All we've heard for last few years is just wait until we has the cap space to actually do something, well its here and ...crickets.

Yep I feel the same way.

Why? So Tyler can throw up an awful shot with three people on him. And then go do nothing on defense.

I hope Vogel rips into them tonight. I can't even be positive with this game.

This has to be the worst game of the season. Someone at least elbow Glen Davis in the face or something. They are clowning us and no one is doing a thing about it.

This game reminds me of game 7 of the '95 ECF against the Magic where NOTHING went right.

Why is Lance so timid? I would LOVE for him to show out right now.

The thing is, this can light a fire under Tyler's ***, and that is exactly what he needs.. He wanted to do something to Glen and he was more 'psycho' than he's been all season. I hope Vogel rips into them as well, and I'm sure he will, but he really can do so much until he has to change the offense himself...

At some point even the most positive, optimistic rationalizers hafta admit this squad does not show up against the premier teams.

Maybe we'll get some positive out of that..maybe..Somehow though, when faced with an actual defense, I think Tyler's likely to not shoot well again.

For some reason, we just dont seem to care in games like this in the first 6 minutes. We get down by 10 plus, and can never get back. Its just a horrible way to play basketball. Especially frustrating against a team like the Magic who can shoot threes so well. We know this team can compete and beat against the better teams, its just a matter of mentality. You can't just have a winning mentality in the playoffs, you have to build upon the regular season.

Is there a team in the NBA with a winning record that gets absolutely blown out more than us?

I hope so, I want this team to succeed so bad. I hate how every year the Pacers build us all up only to kick us in the nuts and destroy any positive thoughts we had.

I think if we do start having a firesale on the players we have, than I really think Larry will step down. As much as these losses and inability to compete against the better teams is killing us as fans. I really think it's got to be tremendously upsetting to Bird. I really think he likes every single person he has ever drafted, it'd be like trading away one of his kids to him.

I think maybe this is the stinker of a game, where Tyler gets his mean streak back , and starts playing well...

Ya know , back at the beginning of the "chicken soup" stretch of games I said that we would see 1 or 2 more stretches of games where we lose 3 or 4 games in a row in our growth process as a team..

So these 4 losses don't come unexpected to me.. especially during this dreaded stretch of hard games we were coming up on at the time..

Fact is, we are taking our lumps as a team because we are young and learning..
Rome wasn't built in a day, and people got spoiled because we started off thsi season so very good.. not taking into consideration that we held off the inevitable growth pains.. It just sucks that we are in the 2nd half of the season when the "wall" hit us as a team..

I think I am gonna stay away from pd a little bit more often for a few weeks and de-stress.. because having others who are frustrated and venting 24/7 during our losses is stressing me out and amplifying it more than it should be.....

If we were playing like this next year, then I would be right there with some of ya'll calling for a few heads.. But it is still way too early to give up on this team and jump off the top of conseco with my hair on fire....

They showed up yesterday and fought hard. They showed up in the first half in Chicago.

However, this team has now lost 8 in a row against over .500 teams. And it has to change. Because that's terrible at the moment.

We are 7 games over .500. At the beginning of the season, how many would have liked that?
