officially ranked 3rd in the E.C. with the 6th best record in the NBA. That 5 game losing streak was tough but we all (mostly me) have to remember that George Hill wasn't present and while he wouldn't have changed the Miami or Atlanta games he very well could have had an impact with Denver, Cleveland or Orlando.

So given the fact that we played the majority of our games on the road and we have played some tough teams I think this deserves some fruit and some dancing.

So, if the season ended today, we'd get Atlanta in the first round, and if both teams advanced, a rematch with Chicago in round two. We'd avoid Miami until the Conference Finals.

But, but, that is not possible. According to national media, we must be below Crapadelphia and the Lins. We're non even mentioned unless it's an afterthought! LOL.

And if we can take care of business for the upcoming games against GS and NO, the team will have some buffer when the schedule gets tight. Hopefully we can maintain this lead as currently tiebreakers against Orlando and Philly are against the Pacers.

We are not mentioned? We are always getting high spots in power rankings, even charles barkley said we are 3rd best team in eastern conference, every commentators says how nicely Indiana plays this season. Sounds like you have some serious attention problems.

I was looking at the standings today from Yahoo! and ESPN and at one point in time it had us at 5th. All of the records were correct. I am not sure what they are doing...

I like our team, but I'm not sure how good they will be in the playoffs going against teams like Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and Orlando (if they still have Dwight).

It depends what "Pacer" team decides to show up that night. If we bring the defensive intensity that we've shown at times this season I think we can run with anyone. If not, well we've seen where that road leads.

If you told me in December we'd go into the all-star break a .636 team, 3rd in the east, and more often than not playing fairly well, and for the most part relatively healthy, I'd be frickin' thrilled. I'll take this, and let's hope for a repeat in the 2nd half!

All of us who have been around the block a time or two know things can go bad down the stretch, but if they don't... I'm hoping for home court, advancing, getting Chicago. I don't think anyone in this conference is taking out Miami, so I'd love it if we either go down fighting with the Bulls again, or if we gloriously overcome that team, we get to say we made it back to the ECF again. That would be a HELL of a season for this year / this roster.

Good watch.. Not many fans would have thought that we would be in 3rd place heading into ASB. Team has played hard and weak at times. It's been one hell of a ride and can't wait to finish it...

Can't wait to see if Bird pulls the trigger on any trade.

Over the past 5. Years the pacers have always been a team to finish somewhat strong. hopefully that continues.

Stupid question....

What scenario would have to happen where the Pacers DO NOT play the Bulls in the 2nd Round?

I know this may seem like a stupid question....but ( as mentioned ) IF the Pacers make it to the 2nd round...I'm coming to Indy to watch my 1st 2 games in the Fieldhouse.

I DO NOT WANT my 1st Pacers experience to involve sitting in sea of irritating and drunk Bulls Fans.

A scenario where we'd have to get smoked in 4 straight by Miami.

Notice there are no fluff pieces about this on the Indystar.com today. No mention of Hibbert and George in the All star events this weekend. Instead we are treated to a Miami billboard about Manning.

The cities media outlets make me sick. No wonder we are essentially last in attendance. They don't cover us!

If the Pacers are the 4 or 5 seed then they will get Miami in the second round, if Miami stays #1 seed of course.

I personally want the Bulls in the second round so I am rooting for either the 3 or 6 seed. I would rather be 6 than 4, just to ensure we don't play Miami.

Very few folks actively posting in this forum picked the Pacers to finish 10 games over .500. Ergo, few would have picked them to be 9 games over .500 at the AS break. Everyone should be thrilled. Expectations have largely been exceeded. Now, the common expectation is that we would make it to the second round of the playoffs.

The goal from here is to set ourselves up to do this. Granted, if this involves tinkering with the offense or the defense or adding a piece, then the tinkering phase could cost us a couple of games. So we may not have a repeat in the second half in terms of record, but in the long run, where it matters most, we may come out where we need to be.

The team is definitely much improved from last season, which is all you can ask for - consistent improvement. When these guys are playing their best they can beat anyone. Miami has obviously been really tough for us this year, which is strange because we played them really well last season.

Their play as of late has been a little disappointing, but every team is going to have their ups and downs during the course of the season. We've had two major additions in West and Hill with no training camp to get them acquainted. I expect D. West's scoring figures to go up in the second half of the season as the team gets more used to him and his strengths.

It'd be great to add another piece before the deadline (if it's the right piece), but if not I'm still looking forward to the playoffs with confidence. Even if our regular season doesn't go as well as we hope the rest of the way, I have a lot of confidence they'll up their play for the playoffs. We saw it last year where this team was MILES better against the Bulls in the playoffs than they were during the regular season.

And yes - I want the Bulls...

Pretty likely to happen because it's almost a lock we won't be the #1 seed (unless something changes health-wise with Miami), so assuming we will be 2nd, 3rd, or 4th (most likely 3rd or 4th), if we beat the #6 or #7 seed, then it goes like this:

If we're 3rd and win, we face the winner of the 2/7 matchup. If we're 4th and win, we face the winner of the 1/8 matchup. So in both cases that's probably Chicago or Miami.

Barring something like LeBron being seriously hurt, I'm just not sure anyone's beating Miami in the East, so if/when we play them, that's almost certainly the end of our journey.

Chicago I think we can beat, but we're the underdog.
