View Full Version : What should Bird wear?

Diamond Dave and myself were talking today and the topic of what Bird should wear on the court if he does accept Paul George's invitation to help him.

He said he would have no problem at all with Bird wearing his old Boston warmup and it took me all of about .00000001 seconds to find the very notion of a Celtic outfit being worn in a place reserved for our team offensive.

But then I thought him wearing a Pacers warmup would be almost as offensive.

So then I thought what about wearing an ISU warm up. I thought that might be kind of cool and would give the school a much needed boost.

But then I really liked the idea of him just wearing his turtleneck and jacket with fancy shoes with the attitude of "I'm so damned good I don't need an outfit".

What do you think he should wear?

His old Boston jersey, complete with short shorts.

Either his old uniform, pacer practice gear, or street clothes

I think Bird should go nude. That way, even if the dunk is not memorable, no one will ever forget it anyway.

I don't care a lot about what he wears but I went with street cloths. I think if he wears any nba uniform it would take away from Pauls moment. I think it's really cool that PG asked him to help. I hope he does, the more fun Bird has this year the better the chances of his return.

Clearly I am not old enough to remember MSA getting invaded by Bird fans back in the 80's. Therefore I am not nearly as resentful as some who had to live through it. However I do recognize that Larry Bird is one of the most recognized and reveared players in NBA history. He is completely synonymous with the Boston Celtics. Simply wearing a Pacer suit or ISU outfit is not going to stop anyone one from associating him with the Celtics. I mean its all-star weekend, and Bird himself has some historic all-star moments there in his Celtics gear.

It's gotta be street clothes or the celtics uni. If it were just a Pacers dunk contest in the Fieldhouse, then ok give him some Pacers warm-ups or whatever. Being that this is the national stage, and it's NBA, celtics stuff makes the most sense.

How bout a retro PG24 uniform, complete with short shorts, and knee high socks...

It should be the old Celtics warm-ups, what he always wore for the 3-point contests he was in.

So is the idea...that Paul George jumps over Larry Bird in a Celtic uniform...and jams it?

I could watch that on replay for 24 hours straight...

...and maybe Vogel could wear his Kentucky Wildcats uni and get dunked on too.

PG should come out in a different uniform just for this specific dunk and it should be our retro jersey plus short shorts. Bird should come out in the retro Pacers warmup suit that you all love so much. :-p I also wouldn't mind if Larry wears his old Boston uniform/warmup.

If I had my way Paul George would wear the throw backs with Dr. Dunk wearing his uniform passing him the ball. Of course nobody but a very select few of us would even know who he was.... but in my mind it rocks.

Also, if Bird wears his old Celtics warmups he should be handed the mic and say "so which one of you guys is gonna come in second?"

I think PG should wear the Darnell Hillman retro uniform, and of course Larry wear his Celtic green. I dunno if you could count on Larry to actually do anything with the ball, he was on DP show and said he could barely shoot a 3pter now.

I'm going with the suit (street clothes). Only because if Bird does agree to it I can't imagine him wearing anything other than regular clothes.

I thought of the same thing a few days ago.. I don't think it would be fair to wear anything Boston or Pacers.. I came up with the conclusion his old East All-Star jersey would be the best. Though I bet he will just be in normal clothes, if he participates.

He should wear a white jacket like this

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa139/TheSugarLady/Straight-jacket-Wesel.gif

because he would be crazy to do it.

If he were to include the jar, it would also signal that he is still crazy about Mayo, too.

Celtics attire, short shorts and all. If Larry wears his 80's looking Celtics jersey (pretty much the same lol, just no shamrock on the back) Paul should wear this style of jersey http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTv1nCTRNfmhsNbYseSiQP57buk8Gc0V 9LeThTss4JvzWlFnF_Or2oz8nAsgA

As a former temporary Sycamore, I would go with this, as it's the best way to give homage to Indiana and still be Bird-relevant.

**** the Celtics garb. I don't want any of that associated with the Pacers and Paul George's impending win.

Bird needs to wear the Celtics uniform with short shorts covered by the Celtics warm ups and he also needs to regrow the stash and sideburns.

Then he needs to come out with PG and go to center court and rip off the warm ups to reveal his pasty white legs in the short shorts and then assume his position for the dunk.

Also, if Bird wears his old Celtics warmups he should be handed the mic and say "so which one of you guys is gonna come in second?"

Then immediately after Bird says this, Paul George sprints from the 3 point line, Larry bird tosses the ball up, Paul George jumps up, grabs it, skies over Larry Bird and does a windmill dunk.

Paul George wins the contest by a landslide.

How about a Celtics warmup jacket and then right before the dunk he rips it off and underneath is a Pacers polo or something like that? That way he recognizes his playing days but also nods towards his current role with the P's.

Does anyone think Bird is actually going to help though?

I actually have thought of that exact scenario. It doesn't really seem like his style to get involved but I think he may if it helps get the Pacers recognition.

So has anyone heard anything about whether or not Bird is going to accept?

I said who cares, because it's REALLY not going to happen. But if we want PG to win, Larry clearly needs to wear a Jeremy Lin jersey.

Seriously though, if Larry does somehow make an appearance, he HAS to puff a cigar courtside.

The only way to get around the uneasiness Pacers fans will have seeing him in Celtics gear while also not disappointing Celtics fans if he's in Pacers gear is to:

1. Have him wear a green T-Shirt that simply says "LARRY" on the Front and "LEGEND" on the back.

2. Wear an official NBA All-Star Warmup shirt or jacket.

3. Wear his usual street clothes.

Indra
02-23-2012, 09:21 PM
I think it would be really cool for him to accept and would help the Pacers garner attention, as he is still Larry Legend to a lot of people. I voted Celtics gear because it would just be weird to see him in anything else, but if he were to accept I think he would be dressed in street clothes or a casual suit. He is still an NBA executive, after all, and he will remember that and choose to dress accordingly.

This could be great. "Boomer" walks into the arena, onto the court, Paul George dunks over him for one of his attempts... then "Boomer" takes off the head to reveal it's Larry.
