This is an extension from the following thread: http://pacersdigest.com/showthread.php?t=69636&page=2

RobFromPacers (A Pacers marketing representative) answered the question of if we could purchase the above warmup by saying the Pacers may be able to reach out to Adidas, but first he wanted a poll to see how much interest there was.

There are a lot of yes's in the previous thread, but just to make it easy for PS&E please respond with a yes or no in this thread.

If you have any caveats feel free to add them to your post.

I will start - I would definitely buy one, assuming it was under $100 or thereabouts and icing on the cake would be if it came with free shipping for us out of towners (even if it took a little longer to get it)

Duh...I would totally buy one. It looks less like some warm up suit than a cardigan that I'd wear outside on a normal day. I'd prefer to have a more updated Pacers logo....with the navy Blue and Gold...but beggars can't be choosers.

In fact, I'd buy any of the shooting shirts or Adidas outfits.....heck, anything...that the Players wear whenever they do shootaround or when they sit on the bench. The stuff that they wear on the bench just looks cool. I plan on getting the gray/blue shooting shirt IF the Pacers make it to the 2nd round of the Playoffs....or during the offseason...whichever one comes first.

If it was a hoodie I would, but that's the only way.

YES! I was very disappointed when I heard they weren't going to be for sale. I would really like to have one.

Most Definately. The cardigan look is what appeals most to me. It's sporty and laid back at the same time.

We should just call this thread...why Adidas is stupid.

If it is Adidas's decision it should be called, "Why sports teams and leagues are stupid for not controlling the apparel they can and can't sell?"

I'd likely pick up a couple.

No, but not because I don't like it. It's a very good looking jacket imo and have no idea why they wouldn't be selling these.

Don't like the warm up. Think it looks very out of place on the players as a warm up. Much more so on them than it might look the way a fan might wear it. But, that's just my taste. Now, I don't suppose Rob can convince Pacers/NBA to keep the actual retro unis as the official unis?

I would like to know what material it was made out of first, but I would definitely be interested in buying one.

If it makes any difference, I am not the type of person who typically buys sports-related clothing items. I think I have 3 items in my wardrobe and all are T-shirts. I've wanted one of these, however, since the first time the Pacers wore them.

I desperately want one of these.

I told my wife the other day how upset I was they weren't selling them and her reaction was this:

"Seriously?! Oh no, I was going to get it for your birthday!"

It's weird, it's almost too...I don't know, classy isn't the right word, but something like that. It's gorgeous but I'd honestly have no clue where I'd wear it. Would still buy one immediately though.

I would buy one in a second, though I doubt I'll ever get the chance.

I went down to the Gift Shop that first night I saw them looking to buy them and the warmup pants that look sweet too!

I said No because it looks like it fits weird and all I keep picturing are those 80's sweaters with a turtleneck under it and a chain on. If it fit like the track jackets then I would be more inclined to buy it because I do like the design.

But just to clarify I also don't wear jerseys either because I look like a little kid in them, a comedian on Bob and Tom said it best:

Black guys can wear jerseys and look cool in them, white guys wear jerseys and it looks like they were just picked by the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Ownagedood
02-14-2012, 12:07 PM
Probably not, they are cool but me personally,im not really into owning them.

That being said, I voted yes to help you guys out. You deserve to have a shot to buy them.

I would buy one as long as it isn't some ridiculous price like $115. Seems like the cool stuff is always offensively expensive.

I'd definitely consider it, but i think the Logo needs to be smaller.

So, basically 3 out of 4 PacersDigest members would buy the Pacers cardigan warm up jacket.

Is a cross-sample of 100+ die-hard Pacer fans enough to prompt Adidas to make them available to the general public?

vapacersfan
02-17-2012, 12:21 PM
I fear not, but its worth a shot.

Hell, if I was Adidas I would offer it as a limited time item and say "we reserve the right to not fulfill your order, but if X amount of people pre-order these in X days we will produce this item for X days.

Guess well see soon enough.

Trader Joe
02-17-2012, 12:31 PM
Why wouldn't they let us place a bulk special order for these? Doesn't make much sense to me. People do this all the time on car forums to get a special part not normally available to the public. They will get a list of people who want one and then order it in bulk.

Producing car-parts is not like producing textile garments, often carparts are steel/alloys that can be v bought in modest amounts, purchased from smaller companies anyway with computer(ized) machinery that runs small batches of production at neigh on the same cost as large ones.

Textile however, means buying the ground materials, (though that looks like reasonably normal cotton fleece) buttons, zippers, zip-pullers, labels, patch-work, mash where needed, lining, embroidery.

Most of that is very costly and labour intense in smaller numbers and please realize that 500 garments is a miniscule number, t-shirts and polos are produced by the 10 thousand batches, in size-series.
Problem with smaller batches is just that, hard to obtain materials, and size batches, you are bound to be stuck with an identical number in sold as in remaining items, due to size offerings.
You can blame Adidas for that, but in the end it is a business, most goods are produced in the far east, will take months to produce and get back and at considerable cost.
I'd like one and for a high quality item (100% cotton, pref. italian, or marrocan) I would not mind forking over $ 200 or more, but most people will want the cheap fast product at max 100 and for that you need large numbers, which you cant sell, catch 24

I really doubt teams are shelling out $500 apiece for these things considering they need more than just one per player in case of loss, wear-and-tear, etc.

I'd be surprised if they aren't fairly standard designs that can be subbed into a regular short production line pretty quickly. Yeah, they aren't going to be in the $50 range, but $200 is high for a completely custom fleece jacket.

02-17-2012, 01:42 PM
Yeah 200 is at the high-end, assuming more localized production, or smaller units in China, I just compare the cost to the cost of the sample collections, which is in actual fact what they made to outfit the teams, just sample collections, I would not be surporsed to see a derivate of it somewhere in time.

But no what they produced so far is likely to be less then what they make in samples of new collections for their sales force, and parts of those will never get to production.

P.S. teams are not paying at all, they are nothing but dress-manequins, stuff like that is produced by Adidas in an agreement, they get he exposure, that it. (and the rights to be the only producer of NBA approved apparel)

I recommend everyone who wants one of these to send a request to adidas through their customer service online. Not sure if it would help, but I'd like to think someone would take notice if they get a few dozen requests--see link below. It'd be great if someone with the Pacers could get a bulk order (for us or for the Pacers Shop) but if we all rely on this it could result in just a single phone call made to adidas...I think 50 emails will have more impact

FWIW, I reached out to Adidas, and they said as of now the product is not available. The person I spoke to did give me another number to call if I wanted to talk to a "product specialist", but my guess is they would give the same run-around answer.

IMO, our best bet is going to be for PS&E to reach out to Adidas, and maybe place a bulk order

Your very best bet to get anything going on something like this is to contact an Adidas sales-rep, preferably area manager and talk to him/her.
(I mean the people selling adidas to the retailers and such, not the ones in the store selling it to you :) )
They will be able to contact the right department pretty quickly and get a costing if there is an opportunity.

Sorry but on this pure NBA article I can do very llittle from the EU.

Not much we can do but wait and hope Rob or someone from the Pacers sees this as a sign that this is a product worth taking a risk on.
