Eight Points, Nine Seconds <S>Preview</S> Review:

Tim Donahue: By the Numbers

It’s that time again. And by that, I mean it’s time for another installment of the
By The Numbers series. And by that, I mean that there was a confluence of my
recollection that I was supposed to periodically update this series with the
available time to update it. So…while the 25-game mark has no meaningful
statistical or symbolice relevance in a 66-game season, it still feels like a nice
round number. Besides with Pacers dropping bad performances Wednesday and
on Saturday, it’s worth getting some perspective on the season-to-date.

17-8
Indy’s best start since the 2003-04 season, when the Pacers won 19 of their first
25 on the way to a 61-win season. Of course, a 61-win season is already
impossible, as the most they could win with 8 losses is 59 games this season. But
if you prorated by dividing 61 by 82, then multiplying it by 66, you’d end up with
the equiv…oh, never mind. Good start, though.

5th, 20th
The Pacers have slipped just a little bit in their rankings for both Defensive and
Offensive Efficiency. Defensively, they remain very good – Top 5 – and they
continue to drive that with very good field goal defense (4th in Def FG% at .421,
5th in Def eFG% at .462). As I’ve said before, field goal defense is far and away
the single most important aspect of defending. If you’re very good at that, you’ll
never be worse than above average at overall defense. Their work on the
defensive glass has gotten better, but is still poor (.728, 23rd). For perspective,
however, that is probably what keeps...CONTINUE READING AT 8p9s (http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.com/2012/02/by-the-numbers-through-25-games/)

Outside Looking In:

http://i39.tinypic.com/15oy0wx.jpg
https://twimg0-a.akamaihd.net/profile_images/506227694/rmc_miner.jpg (http://www.roundballminingcompany.com/)

The biggest issue with Denver’s offense is it has grown
stagnant. The free flowing half court sets where no one
stood and watched from earlier in the season are gone.
The Nuggets run a pick and roll while the other three
players are as still as one of Medusa’s victims. Instead
of putting pressure on the entire defense, they are now
only putting pressure on the ball side. Help is always
ready and in the situation where Denver reverses the
ball, recovery is very easy. The next problem the bigs
rarely set any solid screens. The lifeblood of the pick
and roll is the titular pick followed by a strong roll
directly into the paint. Everything else is a variation
designed to keep the defense on their toes. Slipping
the screen is very effective, when it is a tactic that is
employed sparingly thus taking the defense by surprise.
Slipping the screen as the primary tactic defeats the
purpose...CONTINUE READING AT ROUNDBALL MINING (http://www.roundballminingcompany.com/2012/02/10/nuggets-issues-exposed-by-warriors/)

We really need this... If we lose this there could be reason for concern. I really hope not, but not losing any back-to-backs then losing three in a row would not be good for us. I feel like Roy had some of that All-Star hangover that Quinn mentioned last night. I sure as hell hope Roy isn't doing what he did last year and falls off.

I wonder what people in Indy are doing that they aren't going to Pacers games.

Must be fun!

It's inexcusable if BLF is anything less than 90% filled.

Anyway, GET THIS WIN! No reason to lose to a team on a 5 game losing streak. We've looked like **** lately and it's pathetic!!

In order to win the Pacers have to

Reb
Play stiffling "D"
Pass the ball, share the ball, and make the xtra pass
Players need to get involved in the game, no being passive.

Asher99
02-11-2012, 07:11 PM
I hate playing teams on losing streaks of 5 or better. I'm worried about rebounding with Denver's big bench and our tired legs after playing last night and now for the 4th time in five days.

Denver is leading in PPG and 2nd in FG% and we have a solid defense so it will be fun to see which side gives but once again our tired legs could be the deciding factor. Hope we can get something like Memphis got last night and get a big game from an unexpected source.

Lawson's going to be a problem tonight, because of PnR defense. West doesn't help DC or AJ out at all (in fact, he flat out gets in their way) and when the post tries to help, they don't get back quick enough. Really wish we had Foster for that.

You don't need that last second shot to see that he shot alot this half.

I think people, who continue to harp on this need to realize two things.

1. The bench unit, has one "reliable" (and that's using the term loosely) scorer in Hansbrough. Someone else, preferably a perimeter player, has to help. Just to space the court, and so Hansbrough can have some opportunities. That's not going to be Lance or Dahntay, because if they score, it's coming in the form of going to the basket, or maybe midrange.

2. Don't you think, if he was doing something Vogel didn't want him to do, Vogel would tell him to stop? Seeing as he goes back and forth from "OMG, IMMA NAWT SHOOT EVA" to "ZOMG SHOTS." (And funny enough, the personality change always tends to come with lack of scorers on the floor) The kid is either a schizophrenic basketball player or he's doing what needs to be done (because of the above) and what the coaches tell him to do.

but yes lets whine.

Asher99

Tyler +8 and Lance +7 and they have 2 shots between them in a game that we have 60 points in. Second game in a row Tyler had one first half attempt and that was a over aggressive gun avoiding getting shut out while West was waiting to come in. The second quarter needs to a quarter where we lean on him more to draw fouls since we're not hitting the bonus very quick in the second.

Exactly, when Granger was on the court with him he never even looked to shoot. Most of the time he was trying to get the ball to Danny in a position to take a good shot, and usually it worked out with Danny making a shot.

I am not whining, I am annoyed. This second unit should not live and die with AJ Price's shot. He made a couple and got fouled shooting a three(good for him). Is it to much to expect him to share a little bit?

I am not whining, I am annoyed. This second unit should not live and die with AJ Price's shot. He made a couple and got fouled shooting a three(good for him). Is it to much to expect him to share a little bit?

If you watched, you'd realize he did. He made sure the ball got to Granger and Tyler quite often. But you have to realize that teams are going to put a lot of defensive pressure on Tyler, because the assumption is he's the only one in that bench unit that can score.

And they are going to live and die by his (AJ's) shot. Because if it's not going in, that leaves only one scorer out there.

It's a five person game, offensively, that unit plays 1 on 5 if AJ's not making shots because no one spaces the court. (AJ making shots not only opens the floor for Hansbrough, but also helps Dahntay and Lance go to the basket)

Thus when Price is left wide open, he should take it. And he should look to score, as the team needs it from him.

If AJ was going in there, pounding away at the ball, and then taking a contested shot, I could see the annoyance. He's not. He's moving the ball (Unless the PnR is run, and he's the player that isn't defended then he shoot) and taking open shots. He just gets a lot of open shots because the scouting report says "don't bother guarding him"

How is it not a foul when he dove towards DC instead of the ball? Or maybe i'm just seeing things

Back up yes. Roy is fine. And besides, he's an all star.

No a starter and he shouldn't be a allstar

I wouldn't mind bringing Andre Miller if he is available.

The sarcastic comments about schedule losses are more annoying that the genuine comments about schedule losses.

Another offensive rebound for the Nuggets.Oh look at that.Don't forget they don't have Nene any longer.I'm pissed off right now immensely with the team. The amount of the easy lay ups and easy jumpers Denver had is just ridiculous.
