I was able to score some tickets to the game last night and got some pretty sweet seats compared to the last game I went to. Just wanted to post some of the things I observed.
This Pacers team is truly starting to impress me. The fact that we were able to easily hold the lead vs the jazz through the first 3 quarters basically without Danny Granger contributing is a very big statement. This is how good this team can be and should be. If you add in contributions from Danny in those quarters and the Jazz would have never been able to make a comeback.
The comeback that the Jazz had seemed to be sparked by the inability to control the ball by AJ Price mixed with the great pressure defense by Earl Watson. Once they got some easy baskets from that defense of theirs, the momentum was just all on their side. A.J. Price really disappointed me last night.
Lance Stephenson really impressed me with the way he was under control attacking the basket, and was always aggressive on D and on O. Stephenson seems like one of those players that can really get under the skin of our opponents. I noticed at one point on defense he gave a bit of a chest bump to the guy he was guarding and then I saw him just straight talking trash to him, jawing away. I get the impression that Stephenson is a guy that is going to be a big contributor for us and he's a guy we wouldn't want to play against, I hope we can keep him until he breaks out.
Paul George in real life is pretty cool to watch. Everything he does just looks so effortless, which tells me that he his a very very high ceiling. Hopefully he can mentally put it all together and take a big step into stardom in this league, which would truly make our team yearly contenders and definitely fill up those seats again in Bankers Life. That big 3 he hit showed me that he does have a bit of a killer instinct in him... very good sign.
Roy Hibbert had a pretty solid game but did he just look tired to anyone else? He had that nice little scoring run at the beginning but after that, to me, he just looked beat. His shoulders were slumping, the vibe he was giving off to me was that he just needed to take a nap and get some rest. It was pretty weird.
Granger's killer instinct was awesome in the 4th quarter, but why couldn't he have summoned that a bit earlier? A couple of those shots he took at the end had me cringing and going nooo, no,no......YESSS!!!! Haha, I didn't think they were necessarily the smartest shots but he knocked them down and it was awesome.
Another thing I took from that game is how huge Enes Kanter is. Man he's big, and when he came in it seemed that we had a very hard time securing boards. That guy is gonna be a beast if he continues to develop.
This is a special team I think, and if we can consistently play like we did through the first 3 quarters... with Granger contributing... I think we could make a real playoff push even this year. If George happens to take another step throughout this season, then we'll definitely be very dangerous.
A little note to anyone who hasn't made it out to a game, you really should! Right now with the low attendance it's very easy getting to the game and out of the game, and this team is just very fun to watch in person. I happened to be sitting right next to Area 55 which was pretty cool, those guys get real hype. Some of the people around me were complaining about them, but I didn't get why they would be upset about the crowd being loud for their team and trying to disrupt the other team... after all, isn't that what you go for?
I happened to see some of the people at the game from this forum which was pretty cool... I'm pretty sure I saw Roaming Gnome and Hicks (based on pictures I've seen them post on here), I almost went up to say hello to them but didn't want to be rude as they looked like they were on a mission to get somewhere.
Anyway that's all. It was a really fun experience and can't wait to get back to another game. I really suggest anyone who has some extra money to get out to a game, it's pretty inexpensive right now and the experience is definitely worth it. Go Pacers!
