NBA Announces Supernatural Investigation Spin-Off ‘NBA Nights’

http://o.onionstatic.com/images/articles/article/27/27106/NBA_Announces-R_jpg_635x345_crop-smart_upscale_q85.jpg (http://www.theonion.com/articles/nba-announces-supernatural-investigation-spinoff-n,27106/)

NEW YORK—Facing financial shortfalls due to an abbreviated season and eager to compete
with traditional prime-time entertainment, the National Basketball Association announced
Friday it would soon debut NBA Nights, an hour-long suspense series in which the league's
top stars investigate and battle supernatural threats to humanity.

"This spring, your favorite stars leave the amazing on-court action of professional basketball
behind and take their teamwork to an even darker, more dangerous arena—that of mankind's
never-ending struggle with the forces of darkness," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a
press conference. "These are world-class athletes—but can they survive confrontations with
vampires, werewolves, vengeful ghosts, and their own inner demons? Tune in to NBA Nights
this spring on NBA TV to find out."

Although the paranormal-intrigue show will not debut until mid-March, the NBA will begin
promoting the series during games later this month, beginning with the Timberwolves-
Lakers meeting on Jan. 29. According to show insiders, Kobe Bryant will become suspicious
that certain Minnesota players may be a different sort of wolf altogether when Darko Milicic
checks in to the game unshaven, haggard, and playing with an unusual ferocity. After the
final buzzer, when the Lakers discover deep gouges on the basketball—apparently sinister
claw marks that "weren't made by the dribbling of anything human"—it's up to a trench-
coated Kobe to chase down Milicic as a full moon casts ominous shadows across L.A.

NBA Nights will reportedly feature a broad, constantly revolving cast of characters, with
weekly episodes showcasing every franchise in the league: Emeka Okafor pursues
zombies in New Orleans, Andrew Bogut and Mike Dunleavy battle thawed-out vikings in
Milwaukee, and Kobe and his Lakers teammates realize the entire Los Angeles crowd is
a swarm of soul-eating demons. However, the NBA is promising a larger, deeper story
will unfold as the season goes on...CONTINUE READING THE ONION (http://www.theonion.com/articles/nba-announces-supernatural-investigation-spinoff-n,27106/)

Big game tonight! Our records are a almost the same, a win at Phillips Arena would be a good win tonight!

They've been playing well but i expect us to get the W.

HUGE game tonight, but it's almost getting to the point that the Pacers should expect to win in road games like this.

I can't wait till tip-off!! This is a very important Eastern Conference battle tonight.. I don't see any matchup we will have much trouble with against them, as long as we have our legs we should come out with the victory!

Made the drive to Atlanta this morning and am sitting in a Starbucks now waiting for time to pass. So pumped for the game!

I'll be leaving to head to CNN center around 5 (get there around 5:30).

Gonna be my first Pacers game in like 8 years. Super pumped.

Worried a little bit. Atlanta is a good team, and has always given us some fits. Glad 2 of their bigs are out. But they've lost 3 straight at home, all scoring 90 or less.

I just feel like they'll blow up tonight. Hope guys came ready to play serious D tonight. Feed Roy!

Man, hopefully foster comes back and can provide us some relief in these back to back games case unless we're blowing people out there really isn't much our bench is doing to allow us to spare our starters some minutes. Either that or we plan on getting something at the deadline that could net us a good backup center.

02-08-2012, 05:40 PM
We should win this game. Without Horford we are flat-out better than the Hawks are, and have been great on the road.

Never know with these darn back2backs though, and the Hawks have been embarrassing lately during their homestand and will play with some fire most likely.

Roy should be able to abuse Pachulia, and it would be nice to find a way to put granger on Smith, he did a great job last game in the second half.

It's a huge game, indeed. We need this W tonight. Losing to them will tie the series and bring us in an almost identical record with them. Beating them will put us even closer to the top and even further from the 5th seed. /Captainobvious

It's a statement game, actually. A win would be just huge. Also, our very own members that will be in the stadium deserve to see this team winning. Do this for the fans :D

Let's go! :happydanc

Collison is awesome when he aggressively looks to put the ball in the basket. He has real talent as a scorer.

On a worse team I think he could average around 18-19 ppg.

02-08-2012, 09:06 PM
We finished the quarter strong, we can easily come back from 11. Smith won't hit some of those jumpers typically, and I doubt heinrich continues to play out of his mind, ditto to Johnson hitting every single thing he throws up.

This is one of those cliches that lots of people repeat as a truism but I think it's rather silly on the face of things. It's quite clear from a study of human history that effort can be inspired by a knowledgeable and respected leader. Don't most of us have an experience of rising to the occasion for a boss or teacher that we admire and want to please?

Effort can be inspired. That is part of coaching, especially at this level.

Easily the worst game by Paul George this year. Unless he comes out and tears it up in the 2nd half, it'll be that way at the end of the day too. His first half was that damn bad.

I don't think anyone played well, honestly. Paul played pathetic though.

By that same token I haven't read a single word in this thread, so maybe someone mentioned, but why the **** isn't Granger guarding Joe Johnson, and Paul guarding Marvin Williams? I scoffed at that from the first play.

We've seen a handful of great 2nd half comebacks by this team so far this season, so it could happen tonight. I've actually come to feel like you just can't shut the book on this team this season because of their ability to turn on the defense when the offense is sputtering.

What bothers me is the fact that all the losses except Sacramento have been complete drubbings, @ss-kickings. Only the Sacramento loss was a close loss. This team is prone to being used as a mop. Its like if they have a bad night, its a thoroughly bad night.

Our PF spot is 8-of-11 with 17 points everyone else is 8-of-27 for 24 points.

Low assists result from selfish offense: quick shots, no ball movement, not player movement, tunnel vision about scoring, too much iso, etc.

IMO, it's been pretty cut and dry this year. Our offense is good when we're patient, share, and move players and the ball. Otherwise, we are awful.

Incredibly ignorant? Funny. So easy to dismiss me because I say something that isn't akin to the local kool-aid.

I enjoy Hibbert. I think he's a good ballplayer. I'm happy he's a Pacer. But that doesn't mean I think he's an All-Star. And if you guys think that argument is completely unsubstantiated, then I suggest you readjust your expectations as to what an NBA All-Star center is, even in this day and age where the position is largely a joke compared to what it used to be. I say do away with needing another center and just slap on another guard or forward who is more deserving (like Danny).

And to those criticizing me for basing this judgement on a "small sample size": that statistical bit of fun backfires on itself when you consider that this season is still young and it was only last year that Hibbert started strong and then ended it in a very disappointing fashion.

NBA All-Star centers don't get manhandled by Zaza Pachulia.

Handy tip for quick-fire message board enthusiasts: My argument is not that Hibbert is a bad player. I've already expressed the converse, very clearly. He is an above average player for his position at this point in his development, a fringe All-Star at best.
