OK. Since rumors are flying around I figured I start a thread where everybody could toss out their proposed Artest trades. Try to make sure the salaries work.

I'll get us started:

Indiana trades: SF Ron Artest (24.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 38.0 minutes)
Indiana receives: SF Carmelo Anthony (16.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 35.6 minutes)
Nikoloz Tskitishvili (No games yet played in 2004/05)
Change in team outlook: -7.7 ppg, +0.4 rpg, and +0.1 apg.

Denver trades: SF Carmelo Anthony (16.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 35.6 minutes)
Nikoloz Tskitishvili (No games yet played in 2004/05)
Denver receives: SF Ron Artest (24.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 38.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +7.7 ppg, -0.4 rpg, and -0.1 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Carmelo has a bit of controversy this year. Well, a little compared to Artest. Artest is a better defensive player and a better scorer. Carmelo is young, with potential. I added Tskitishvii just to make the salaries work. I don't know anything about him.

Denver needs some help at the 2, which Artest can slide over too occasionally.

Hard to say, but I probably wouldn't do it for Melo. He's far more selfish than Ron, and will demand to be the focal point of the offense.

I'm content with a bag of chips. I've come full circle on this over the past two seasons - I had hoped his on-court performance last season meant someone would take him in a balanced trade. Even a full season of mostly improved behavior and there were no takers. :(

I'd be happy with a draft choice.

I'd kiss DW if he could trade him for a veteran post player (Mark Blount would be nice).

I'd run through the streets of Chicago naked in January if we could get Peja for him (but Sacremento probably isn't that dumb.)

Pacers beter get a low post player if they trade Artest. With the emergence of Fred Jones, Paces need another low post player.

So you are comfortable with Jackson playing the 3 full time?

UB,

Would you take Curry or Chandler and a throw-in like Piatkowski (for salary matching)?

Sadly I think that's about as good as we'd get.

In three months we've gone from trades for Peja or Ray Allen being reasonable to trades for other misfits like Curry, Glenn Robinson, Antoine Walker, Abdur-Rahim, Sprewell, etc. suddenly looking ugly but maybe not so bad.

Say "no" to Tyson's Chicken.

EDIT - and if there's one team DW and Bird don't even have to bother calling, its the Bulls. No chance whatsoever that they'll bring him back for any price - Paxson would get publicly crucified.

What is that website where you can check to see if trades work based on salaries? I forget

How about Magloire? I dont like the idea of trading Artest at all, but I have to admit he's reached the absolute border of what in the end could be accepted.

How about including another player, we have enough quality depth, to get someone like Marion? He has a max-contract and Phoenix wants to clear cap space to be able to resign Amare Stoudamire.
Maron is a good defensive presence, good rebounder, leaper, blocker, disher, gets a nice amount of steals he has about the best character of an NBA player that you could wish for and he knows how to score pretty well too.

Or how about Jason Richardson?

PLEASE, NO BONZI WELLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indiana trades: SF Ron Artest (24.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 38.0 minutes)
Indiana receives: Kwame Brown (No games yet played in 2004/05)
Change in team outlook: -24.3 ppg, -7.0 rpg, and -2.3 apg.

Washington trades: Kwame Brown (No games yet played in 2004/05)
Washington receives: SF Ron Artest (24.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 38.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +24.3 ppg, +7.0 rpg, and +2.3 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

This is a gamble but one that I think would be worth it. Kwame is built like and is motivated by Jermaine. We all know that Jermaine is both our best Center and Power Foreward. If Jemraine can bring Kwame arround we would have a heck of a twin towers combo.

Washington does it because they would be a lock for the playoffs even with Artest losing 10 games to lack of sanity.

The Al Harrington suggestion does raise a question. If the Pacers were trying to trade Ron all summer as some suggest, then did the Hawks demand Harrington over Artest in exchange for Jackson?

ChicagoJ
11-11-2004, 03:22 PM
Presumably, although that could be because BK was here when Al was drafted, as opposed to reasons Jerry West cited for turning us down.

I'm shocked, absolutely shocked. You people really believe that in the long run of the '04 season, that Ron Artest is bad for the Indiana Pacers?

Larry Bird, Rick Carlisle and Donnie Walsh certainly do not think so, and that will play out. He will never be traded, because he is untradable because he is so GOOD.

In a couple months, this will be nothing but a funny aside to the season.

Yeah, if anything, I think DW and Bird would prefer to move him, but they haven't found the right deal yet. They tried to negotiate from a position of power over the summer, and failed.

To thier credit, they haven't paniced, yet. Unfortunately, the Ron Artest Apologist Club has confused that with an endorsement of Ron's current place on the roster. Even if they do panic and trade him for a pick or a relatively inferior player/ scrub, I'm not sure that makes our team any worse and I think some of our players might be motivated by proving to the world that we didn't need him after all. We didn't need him to beat a healthy Minnesota team (except for Doug, I suppose) in thier gym.

I think there are very few players who are the right deal for Ron.

But they are:

- James Posey
- Shane Battier
- Shawn Marion
- Caron Butler
- Joe Johnson

I think are chances of moving him are slim. Although I wouldn't be suprised if Jerry West and Hubie Brown took a chance with Artest. I could see the Lakers taking him on since they are the Lakers. I doubt the Suns trade for him but I think if they were willing to Marion or Johnson would be excellant replacements.

Notice I didn't say Peja. Mainly because Peja is a weak defender and we are pretty decent with shooting with Tinsley, Jones, Reggie, Bender, Croshere, and Jackson.
