View Full Version : Scott Hoke was fired?!

That's what this sounds like to me. I emailed Mark Montieth about what happened to Scott, and this was his reply:

"Scott was let go over the summer. Stacy Paetz is now the sole studio host and sideline announcer. "

How could they fire Scott? And for Stacy Paetz (who's not that bad) no less? Man. That sucks.

H should have been fired or at least moved up to somewhere in production along time ago.
He sucked. Dull. Dry. Could put you to sleep.

I liked Hoke. I was kind of shocked that they had this Stacey Paetz there. I'm not about to make a statement that might get me into trouble about the possible reasoning, but doesn't it seem like alot of women are now getting involved with the NBA? I was watching NBATV and they had a woman broadcaster with Fred Carter and I honestly felt like she was reading a teleprompter and not stating her own opinions.

Maybe he asked for a raise and got turned down.

I read that the Pacers cut a number of staff loose this summer in a cost cutting effort.

:amen:

She's not really bad, but as far as I'm concerned Scott was a lot better. I'm sure it did have something to do with cost cutting. She was doing the interviews last year and Scott was hosting the show. Now they only have to pay her and considering its only her second year I assume she's a lot cheeper.

And she's easier on the eyes than Scott Hoke, which means she may appeal to the Pacers' sponsers, thus more advertising revenue.

If she fails, look for The Watson's Girl to be next season's studio host/ sideline reporter.

Me too, not sexually though, just as the P's studio announcer.

Got a follow-up email with more details.

"I'm not sure it was that simple. From what I heard Scott wasn't very
reliable. Showed up late for practice and left the camera man to handle
interviews by himself ... that sort of thing. The job strikes me as an
easy one if you've got the knack for it, and it's best not to blow a good
thing. Jerry Baker, who used to do the TV broadcasts, fell into a similar
trap. He got to complaining a lot and didn't do his homework like he
should have, so they let him go. Hated to see it, because he's a really
good guy. "

That's a shame. :(

who else has the balls to wear a pat riley 'doo in 2004 but Scott Hoke?
But really, after reading the above post, if you can't embrace a sweet job like that and give it your all, then you don't deserve it. Stacy just looks a whole lot like Joe Scarborough. and she always ends her sentances in a question tone...
but hey, who cares right?
she's got HUGE tracts of land!!

I don't even bother with the half-time or post-game shows now.

Hey you just described Stacy Paetz , I defintely mute the volume when she talks and usually tune into Slick and Mark on WIBC. Stacy Paetz reminds me of that Sunday School teach who talked about the same crap over and over Every Sunday morning...BORING !!!!

To bad that happen to Scott Hoke but it sounds like he wasn't happy anyways with the job and knowing the Pacers I'm sure the pay wasn't the greatest ;)

I'm not a big fan of Stacy, or Scott for that matter, but keep in mind that we ARE in a small market, and the TV dollars probably aren't anything to write home about. Frankly I think we're lucky to have the play-by play and color guys we have on local TV and radio, under the circumstances. So I could have lived with Scott Hoke, even though he got on my nerves sometimes. Stacy... well, let's see what happens.

I'd be curious to know what Scott's salary was. Not much, I'll bet.

Not a big fan of Stacy Paetz but I will say she has nice boobies (I'm feeling a bit ornery right now). In person she physically looks better but my comments, be them ever so crass, most likely mirror the majority of the viewing public. I myself would rather have Hoke but if what Montieth replied above is true (which most likely it is), he should have been let go. If I had that gig I know I would practically live at Conseco. While people interested in Pacers information may like Scott more, the fact is, that most people prefer to be entertained and if putting eye candy such as Stacy is what entertains the populus then that's what will be on. It makes Dollars & Cents. Maybe she will grow on us-all jokes aside.

I feel really bad for you if that happens. Watson's just opened down here and are running her annoying commercials. She is only not attractive, but her voice is horrible.

The reasoning about Hoke being fired sounds like rumours and excuse making to me. Kind of like the Pistons spreading rumours about Carlisle being an evil human being to make his firing understandable.

Everytime Stacy would walk out on the Arena floor during a break and scream about the latest sumo wrestling fan competition, or yell a shrill "let's go Pacers!" I waited for all 18,000 peoples' heads to explode.

I'd believe what the Pacers beat writer wrote to Hicks and I would put this a little higher up on the validity scale because of where the information came from-the Pacers beat writer.

Scott Hoke is married to my cousin, Kelly.

I know that his contract was not renewed, but I don't know of a reason. Sooner or later, I probably will be informed, but inquiring about why one lost his job is not something that I find proper.

But the things I know about Scott are that he has always felt very fortunate with his affiliation with the Pacers. He's never seemed the type not to be punctual and I don't believe he would ever leave anyone hanging.

I tend to agree with the earlier post. I think there is some posturing that may be going on. For the most part, most folks I've spoken to have enjoyed it when Scott has worked with Darnell to provide analysis of the games.

It is also possible that Scott himself decided to go in a different direction. He is a family man and much of his work involved time away from the family during evening hours.

beast 23 echos my thoughts on Scott. I knew his younger sister for many years, and I saw her family in passing on many occasions, and they were great people. Scott always seemed to be a first rate kind of guy. What Montieth says may be true, but it just doesn't fit with my memory of the young Scott Hoke.
