Eric P

Hi Mark, What did the Bulls do to make Tyler Handsbro so angry Does he just have athing for showing up against Chicago or is he turning the corner?

Mark Nugent

I think Psycho T is a good player, but he abuses Boozer. Boozer can be a little soft and a little late on his rotations, which leaves Hansbrough in a perfect position to have a big game. It’s a different story once Taj comes in. Gibson does a much better job, obviously.

Eric P

So Rip looked great last night. One thing though, will they miss Bogans defense of the oppenents SG while he is not starting?

Mark Nugent

No, because Brewer is one of the top defensive 2 guards in the league. Also, the Bulls are a team defense, so it’s up to everyone to slow down guys like Kobe and Wade. lastly, Hamilton impressed me last night, I think he’ll be ok on D. And no one can guard Wade if the refs are calling every ticky tack thing like they normally do.

Yes I’m bitter the bulls lost last year!

Eric P

I know I am probably in the minority here, but I think the Bulls should have looked at signing Mike Dunleavy. One thing Rose could use is someone to occassioanly bring the ball up court and in itiate the offense. Dun is a 6’9 PG in some respects , and a career 42% 3Pt

Mark Nugent

Who’s minutes would he have taken? Korver is guaranteed this year, so you can’t just cut him. There just aren’t minutes for him, plus the Bulls like Butler.

I like Dunleavy, but he just wouldn’t have played any this year.

Eric P

What did you learn about the Pacers, if anything, from the two pre-season games?

Mark Nugent

That they are not a complete team yet. Give them 5-10 games to work in George Hill and David West and that is going to be a very scary team. I think they have the potential to be a top five seed in the East ahead of the Magic and Hawks.

Danny Granger needs to calm down though, his shot selection is terrible and if he plays like that all season they could be derailed very quickly.

Eric P

Do you think Paul George will step up even more this year? He k now stands 6’10 which is rediculous for a SG

Mark Nugent

I think he will be a very good player this year. He’s still limited some on offense, but he can knock down the open J and he can finish. As long as he isn’t relied on to be the man, which should be West and Granger, then I think he will have a solid year. His defense is going to be great. He will be able to guard four positions, that crazy rare in the NBA.

Eric P

Mark my man, I am afraid what we say from Roy Hibbert is what we will get, now and the future. Agree/disagree?

Mark Nugent

I’ve never been a huge Hibbert fan. He is pretty slow, even for a center. his range is very limited, and for someone of his size his isn’t aggressive enough in going after boards. I think he would have been a heck of a backup had the Pacers gone after Nene, but that never seemed to be there plan.

Short answer, I think this is about it for Hibbert, a solid center, but not a player who can really change the game on either side of the floor. He’ll probably get 10 million a season when his contract is up though!!!

Eric P

Why didnt the Bulls pusrue DeShawn Stevenson? I would think he could really help come playoff time , assuming you face the Heat

Mark Nugent

It seems to me, they had their eyes set on Hamilton from day one. I’m pretty sure they talked to Caron Butler and Jason Richardson, but both seemed to want more money then the Bulls could offer and I’m not 100% sure they would have wanted either over Hamilton. I don’t think Stevenson can score enough for the Bulls. Keep in mind the Mavs had a lot of offensive options to hide Stevenson, the Bulls don’t have that luxury.

Eric P

Is their a rivalry brewing between Pacers and Bulls, or is this my wishfull thinkning?

Mark Nugent

I think there is a rivalry brewing, but for it to be taken seriously the Pacers have to start winning. Otherwise it’s a one-sided rivalry that’s not really any fun.

I kind of agreed with him. It seemed like Boozer and Ty like going at each other , where as Taj's youth, length, and athleticism give Tyler fits

Didn't Tyler have 2 drives on Taj, where he dribbled between his legs and made the bucket? He also got Taj to foul out... Seemed to me Tyler gave Taj fits.

He must be the only one in their chats a lot. He is always getting his questions answered. I love it. Usually his 3-4 questions are buried in one of those huge cover all threads, but they always contain some decent insight.

Yeah he was destroying both Boozer and Taj, he fouled Tyler like 3 times I think.

Or they already had too much egg nog :)

What I have come to the conclusion is , unfortuantely, Roy will be a servicable center, nothiung more , nothing less

Bryan

Is there a roster move or strategy that will make the pacers a top 4 team?

Joel Brigham

Iím assuming you mean a top four team in the East, and honestly, depending on how the season goes they might not be too far off as they are. This might not be the year they jump up into the elite of the conference, but I think that when Boston drops off, Indiana is the team that steps right up into their place. Chicago, Indiana, New York, and Miami look like they could lock down homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs starting this year and continuing on that way for another three or four seasons.

That said, I think we all need to temper our expectations of this Pacers team, despite the fact that theyíre quickly becoming everybodyís favorite sleeper pick. So much of what they do goes as Danny Granger goes, and from what Iíve seen in two preseason games he doesnít look particularly ready to change his game to a more team-oriented style. If heís going to gobble up the ball and slow down the offense, it doesnít matter who else heís playing with. I love the roster Indy has put together, but at the same time I just donít feel the same sort of confidence in them as I do other teams in the conference. I feel sort of the same way about New Jersey. Theyíve got some nice pieces, but something just isnít clicking for me.

Weíll see how right (or wrong) I am in a few months, but in the case of Indiana Iím really hoping for a great season. Donít know if they make the leap this year, but I think they take some positive steps in the right direction.

Eric P

Joel buddy Im down on Hibbert. I had high hopes but it looks like he will be a servicable center. Nothing more, nothing less. Thoughts?

Joel Brigham

I just donít see that fire in the kid. Thereís no reason a man that size shouldnít be hauling in 9-10 rebounds a game, but his rebounding numbers are surprisingly low. I need him to block 2 shots a game and establish himself as one of the premier swatters in the league, otherwise youíre absolutely right about him. Good player, but doesnít seem to have that greatness in him. Though he was excellent on ďParks on RecreationĒ this past season.

Eric P

By seasons end Joel,. who is the starting PG for the Pacers : Darren Collison or George Hill?

Joel Brigham

Iíd rather it stay Collison for a couple of reasons. The first is the fact that heís got more potential for star quality at that spot. As much as I like Hill, his ceiling is pretty well-established, and that ceiling pretty much knocks him out of the running for an All-Star appearance. Secondly, I love Hill off the bench as a combo guard because you can sub him for either George or Collison depending on the game situation. He adds that bit of diversity tot he backcourt, and I like that. So far he hasnít seen a ton of minutes, but I think thatíll change once the season starts. Honestly, Iím excited about the idea of both of them playing together at times. Either way, the talent is all there. Vogel will find an appropriate way to use it all

I agree with pretty much everything Nugent and Brigham said.

I've been a Danny supporter for some time now, but if he continues to play the way he did in preseason, it may be time to move him. We added additional scoring punch for him in the form of West and Hill. No more excuses.

If I remember Taj had like three straight fouls guarding Tyler, I think Tyler was overpowering Taj.
