I think most would agree that we need a b/u 5...if none of the TC invites cuts it, here is what is available. Sort of an underwhelming list, but probably many of these players are cheap and satisfactory as 3rd stringers...

Would love to see Dalembert brought in to play behind Hibbert. When you need a better defensive big, you can plug him into the game. I think he'd be a great fit to be honest. As for Ryan Hollins, I'd like that as well.

Z, Shaq, Prysbilla, Ratliff? Smith?

Couple guys you can cross off already, seeing as Big Z and Shaq retired and the Bobcats signed Ely.

Of the guys on that list that we could get for the minimum (which I would like to think is just about all of them) I would probably lean towards Jason Collins.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he got amnestied, so teams have to bid on him, with the highest bid getting him; if no one bids, he is a FA.

Dalembert's not coming here to be our third string center. All we need is a warm durable body who can defend competently and rebound.

Jason Smith might be a pretty decent option, and he'd come cheap, too. I wouldn't mind us taking a chance on him.

Jason Collins re-signed with the Hawks a few days ago, but yes, he's the better one that's actually a respectable defender.

The Pacers should hold walk-on tryouts. Surely somebody out there would be capable of playing.

Or, maybe the Lakers would be willing to trade Josh for a combination of Rush / Pendergraph / and a 1st round pick? Kobe could use yet another Pacer to take pressure off of him by spacing the court.

Collins re-signed with the Hawks, Krstic is in Europe.

I see no one in that list that's interesting. Dampier at least looks like a C. Maybe he could clog the lane for a 5 or 10 mpg. That's all we really want.

Dampier like Redd would be a max 1 year 1-2 mil contract.

Sam averaged 24 minutes last year. Roy averaged 27 minutes last year.
I think it would work great and Foster can play where needed due to foul, injury, illness situations. Sam would dominate 2nd units. Would be a Great advantage for the Pacers.

Just something to keep in mind the guys in gray are considered off the list.

I would like to grab Alexis Ajinca if he is still available, basically Roy Hibbert 2.0 type player though, I know someone with better low post man to man defense would be better, but I doubt we would miss too much of a beat if Roy ended up going down.

Either him or bring in a guy like Greg Smith who isn't very good but he is a decent player. Hopefully Roy's work ethic rubs off and he actually starts taking basketball more serious. He has skill he just doesn't work hard or play hard but he is more skilled than any affordable other option.

Yeah, I'm not sure what his value is at this point, I wouldn't want to be parting with a 1st rounder for him, that's for sure.

That would be the asking Price IMO a 1st rd pick and a young guy.

Alexis Ajinca has his own youtube mix  Now I've seen everything

That said, I like him better than most project centers. I can see the Roy comparison, though he is more outside shooter than post presence. Not a guy I would want to lean on heavily though.

I suggest either getting Reggie Evans, Dampier or better yet....bring Stanko over.....we just need a Center that can come over and split time with Foster to make up 16 to 20 minutes a game when Hibbert has to rest.

Ballism would usually be able to tell us....but what's Stanko's contract status and possibility to bring him over over the next year?

He has an out clause for the NBA, but I'm pretty sure he has 2 years left on his deal.

If Joel Przybilla is healthy and wants to play another year, he'd a good signing. He's huge, '7"1, 255 lb., and is an excellent rebounder and shot blocker, which is what I assume we're looking for.

What about Joey Dorsey? I see he signed overseas in September. If he's available (I'm unsure of the details of his situation), he'd be a good pickup. He's basically a young Reggie Evans; undersized, but a powerful build and completely dominant on the glass.

I think it's pretty safe to say that if Barac isn't brought over now when we are praying to God everynight that Roy stay's 100% healthy all season long because he is our only legit center (beyond the ghost of Jeff Foster) then he will never be brought over here and we can move on like we did with Lobeck.

I think both Euro's were drafted with the idea in mind that they were future trade assets and so far 50% of that is correct. Let's see about the other half.

I'd be ok with bringing Fesenko in. Plays pretty good D, takes up a lot of space. None of the guys on that list would be world beaters, we just need someone to fill in when Foster needs to sit out a game, we know that will happen this season.

I don't think Hollins is available. I thought he had a player option that he picked up. At this point there aren't really any attractive vets besides Pryzbilla, who's talking about retiring. I say offer Fesenko or Ajinca a 2 year deal with a team option for the 2nd year. They've got far more long-term potential than anybody else.

Maybe asking price?

Maybe teams waiting for all the big man dominoes to fall first - West, Nene, Howard talks, etc?

I think he might be a good option for Houston. I'd love to have him here, but the money is reportedly steep for us.

There was a lockout. Worst possible season to sign that kind of player. They had to settle their life months ago, they weren't going to wait.

---------------------

I want the Celtics to sign a veteran beefy center to round the big man rotation too and FWIW my priorities would be Dampier and Gadzuric. Two good rebounders and decent shot-blockers, Dampier brings more post defense, Gadzuric is less of an offensive hindrance and better on transition. If I were Bird, I'd probably be intrigued enough by Thabeet to bid something on his contract.

Sounds like his China team is getting ready to cut him, but he's having a toe problem, as in fractured.

I think he was already released from his Chinese team. Read about it some time ago. Also that the injury wasn't serious, that he'd only be out for a couple of weeks. In fact, it sounded like the injury was more of an excuse for both sides to part ways: Gadz to find a NBA contract, the team because he wasn't producing well. If the toe is actually fracture, that changes things. Have you read about that recently?
