For those who thought Carl Landry would be a lot cheaper option than David West signed a 1 year 9 mil deal with the Hornets.

I think at this point the Hornets have to overpay.

West's contact looks nice

He only got that much because it was a one year deal. Hornets save future flexibility and Landry gets more for that one year. By the way ....

The best front court guy still out there is Landry, but he doesn't fit with West around. He'll most likely go back to New Orleans and probably put up 20 PPG with that group on a 1 year contract, and see what he can get next year. I think I would.

Wow, DW's contract is looking good right now.

Glad to see the Hornets are going to give Gordon at least a little help.

So what are they saving their capspace for? Next year they'll be 40 million under the cap so is any big time FA going to sign there? I don't think so.

After resigning Gordon they'll be forced to spend money on marginal players next year.

Wow. And I thought the Kwame Brown $7 million deal was excessive.

Must be "basketball reasons".

Actually, this Hornets team looks to be pretty decent. Their lineup will be:

Jarret Jack
Eric Gordon
Trevor Ariza/ Al-Farouq Aminu
Emeka Okafor/ Carl Landry
Chris Kaman

That's a relatively strong line-up, especially in the front-court.

That's if Kaman can stay healthy. Not much scoring on that team even so.

This lineup is almost identical to that of the Clippers two/three years ago. They are a lottery team.

and a bad lottery team at that.

As I've said elsewhere, this is "make team sell-able " strategy. Reduce committed salary, keep team loaded with cheap, young players and draft picks.

Then when they are bought and moved to Anaheim or Chicago or Seattle they have the flexability to be molded to the new owner's taste AND the money to go with the destination when it comes to FAs.

The question is will this kind of reduction be enough to entice a buyer?

Wow, that's awful.

I'm really glad we didn't pay him that.

That's great money for a backup PF. Crazy money.

I don't mind deals like this or Kwame Brown. Good value. More club friendly than those longer deals with smaller yearly salaries. Landry's scoring will help that franchise immensely this season.

Good for him.
