ESPN sources: Lakers continue to express serious interest in Paul, w/package built around Pau, but search for third team on to supply youth

Just filed w/@Chris_Broussard: NBA officials and Clippers traded Chris Paul proposals into TUES night, but sources say Lakers back in hunt

Became very real tonight that Lakers could focus on CP3 over Dwight and aim for CP3/Kobe/Bynum core thru Pau-centric offer to NBA's Hornets

^From Marc Stein's twitter

Would it make sense for us to make a serious run at Pau and send a package revolving around some combination of Hibbert, Hansbrough, Collison, Hill, 1sts + the ability to take on a bad contract? (I believe Bird still considers Granger and PG off limits)

I think we definitely have enough pieces to make it work if we really forced it, but would it make sense?

Personally I am happy to stick with our roster as it is but I could definitely see the appeal in bringing in Gasol... for the right price. What would we have to give up to get him?

if we didn't sign David West i would want Pau. But i think the team is set now. Adding Mayo woulda been nice but would of slowed down PG's development

Hibbert, Hans, Collison, Hill and 1st picks for a 31 year old PF? I'll pass. Indiana has no real need for Gasol imo. Yes, he'd be the best player on the roster, but he wouldn't make the team any better in the long term, or even the short team if we had to give up all those pieces.

I wouldn't give up Hibbert for Gasol. Pau isn't going to make us contenders now and that trade would really hurt us in the future.

Those are pieces to work with... I didn't suggest trading all of them.

Ok, that makes more sense.

I would be ok sending Collison and Hans for Pau, but that's about as far as I'd want to go, and there's no way NO or LA ever accepts that trade.

I'm betting Larry is happy with Hibbert and West, with Hans off the bench. I don't see how Pau fits here at all.

If we're going to make any more deals this season, it's likely going to be for a SG, unless there's a way to get one of the big fish like CP3 or Dwight.

It'd be a cold day in hell before I would ever want to help the Lakers add players they cherry picked off of other teams. jmo

I'm not for giving up any of our core... never have been..
After watching the crate interview with West.. it just solidified it for me..

The Lakers can't beat the Clippers' offer, 3rd team or no. They're just trying to drive up the price, instead of letting the Clips own the market for CP3.

I just hope CP3 doesn't go to the Lakers.

He can't. There's no way the Lakers can get a sure top-5 draft pick for Gasol, plus several other lottery picks.

That was a thing of beauty wasn't it?

I agree with all 6 of the posts I read.. Pau would be our best player but has no real fit here long term. Pass

Are you out of you're mind. You want to pay the price for Chris Paul but receive Gasol instead.

You're right about the Lakers chances of working this trade, but I don't think that their motivation is to drive up the price. I think that Mitch is desperate at this point. In that media market with those entitled fans, having an offseason where you essentially replace a player like Odom with McRoberts is not going to fly. You can't preach patience to them. I just have to wonder what LA sports talk radio sound like right about now. I'm sure that lakersground.com is about to burn to the ground. The pressure is on Mitch to win yesterday, today and tomorrow and to do it with style and flash. I think that he's got to land Howard or Paul or lose his job at this point.

BTW, anyone remember when the Lakers were supposed magically land both trade demanders and the rest of the league was supposed to facilitate that? HA!

The mean-spirited and jealous spirit dwelling deep in the bowels of my being would consider it a an extra win to see the Lakers miss out on both CP3 and Howard.
