Slick certainly sounds depressed. "I get scared any time somebody falls down, now."

Miller injures hand in preseason game

By Mark Montieth

The Indiana Pacers' freakish run of injuries continued today, when Reggie Miller broke a bone in his left hand in the first half of the final preseason game against Denver.

Miller suffered the injury when he had contact with Nuggets guard Voshon Lenard.

Miller will be re-evaluated Saturday, at which time his playing status will be determined.

Jeff Foster (hip surgery) and Anthony Johnson (broken right hand) will open the season on the injured list. Jermaine O'Neal is doubtful for the season-opener at Cleveland on Wednesday with a strained left foot, and also might have to start on the injured list.

Jonathan Bender sat out the preseason with a bruised left knee and is questionable for next week. Rookie David Harrison missed all but the first preseason game with a sprained shoulder, but is expected to be available.

As i said at the forum party I did not think that Reggie would be the starting shooting guard this season. I guess I was right

On a more serious note, I do wonder if any of you who said that Reggie was holding the team back will now be happy that Reggie is out.

Think he already has he is Avg 21 ppg in the preseason ;)

You think preseason stats prove that?

Let's see how he does when opposing teams devise gimmick defenses against him since he and SJax are the only two proven scorers on the roster...

When will we find out more on the injury?Tommorow? How long do you guys think he will be out?I heard Q.Buck say he could play through it.And Al is saying we still may have J.O. and JB back for the opener.Hasn't J.O. been placed on the I.R.?

JO won't be officially decided until the middle of next week (see the article on Pacers.com, I posted it earlier today). Bender won't be on the IR but may not be ready to play. Ditto for Harrison.

Reggie broke his off hand, he could probably be back soon, wearing a glove on his left hand a la AJ last season. However, we have nearly no history of Reggie playing 'hurt'. He's been remarkably durable. Sure, he's played with nicks and dents and sprains, but he's had two injuries (eyesocket and ankle) and he wasn't able to play through either of those. Its hard to predict whether he'd be effective or not if he tried to play through it (one could argue he isn't all that effective now even when healthy.)

Wow. :(

You can overcome an injury or two for short periods of time but it's really tough when they start piling up and you have 4 or 5 key guys out. It happened last year with the 76ers; it's not that your starting lineup will suffer drastically the real problem is your bench gets extremely weak and you start to have players trying to do too much or playing too many minutes. I guess one positive is that it is only November.

Low blow...

He should take off until he is fully healed. There is no point in trying to play hurt when the season is just starting.

Technical problems. Sorry.

Lastly, I agree with you. Firstly, that comment probably looks worse than I intended... but it wasn't that long ago that many people were grumbling about him as a starter. So I was just trying to keep the reactions to this injury in perspective.

Of all the starters to get injured, Reggie will be the one LEAST felt. Most people think SJax should start anyways and now Fred will get on the floor to back him up. Before everyone was wondering where the hell Fred would play. Now we know.

On the other hand, people were thinking Fred was going to play backup PG with AJ out. Either way, Fred will get plenty of playing time now. And that's fine with me. Just a shame that it has to be due to injury.

God! Can it get any worse? this sucks! we need to get people healthy! don't rush them back and have these injuries linger on...Because if they do and they come back to soon and make it worse...SEE YA PLAYOFFS...
We just need to get people healthy and hang around...gosh it seems like this is all gone wrong...starting with the injuries from the detroit series...:(

I'm just sad that since this is Reggies last season in all probability that it had to start this way.

UB, I was thinking the same thing. Now people are gonna start to see how important Reggie still is.

For those who are happy that Fred will get minutes, I've got to tell you, IMO he's looked AWFUL this preseason. Hopefully he'll get it turned around, cause right now I'm not terribly comfortable with him getting extended minutes.

And Rat, if that picture could fit, it'd definitely be my new avatar.

Asked afterward if O'Neal's absence contributed to Charlotte's win, Knight bristled.

"What about Primoz? They didn't have Shaq, but we didn't have Primoz," he said.

One thing to keep in mind. Hopefully we get the injuries out of the way NOW, so that hopefully they don't happen at the most important part of the season: the playoffs. As long as we get healthy, we should be fine.

I wouldn't trust what the TV people tell you. They want you to watch the game. Only us idiots will watch with all the first team players out.
