He definitely plays with an edge. That mindset alone is a skill.

Not to nit-pick but I would like to see a li'l more passing if I have to sit through a "point guards" high light package.... There wasn't a single assist in that package... yawn!

No, that isn't a knock on Hill.

It should be.

This is the guy whos suppose to be a PG for us.

Hill is really more of a SG with some PG abilities, but he'll still be a much better back-up to DC than AJ. Honestly, Lance is more of a PG than Hill is.

Hill brings perimeter defense and shooting to the table (two things we were sorely missing), as well as the ability to finish at the rim. He's a smart and savvy player, and his offensive game is surprisingly smooth. But he's not going to "wow" you with amazing passes (though his passing is still adequate, IMO).

If Hill were 3-4 inches taller, he'd be a star SG in this league.

LOL.....that theft on Kobe where all Kobe could do was flop and act like George fouled him.

That song on the video is straight **** by the way, at least in my opinion.

He's good in transition, gets deflections resulting in easy layups but the part that intrigues me even more is he has become a solid jump shooter and he can create his own shot and looks good on isolations offensivly. We don't have a player who can do that besides Stephenson and Paul George who has shown flashes of creating his own shot. I love him as a addition but he'll have to improve his court vision a bit.

If Hill were 3-4 inches taller, he'd be a star SG in this league.

If Paul George were 3-4 inches taller he'd be the most athletic Center in the NBA...

If Hansbrough were 3-4 inches taller he would be one of the most feared guys in the NBA...

If Roy Hibbert were 3-4 inches taller, he would be unstoppable...

This game is fun.

I don't know why people are freaking out about hill running point and not knowing how to pass etc. He's a capable passer, not a great one, but it seems pretty obvious to me that his role is going to be very similar to Jason Terry on the Mavs. He's gonna be receiving passes and scoring, and occasionally handling the ball.

2 small but really effective things that really impress me about George Hill's game:

1. he protects the ball with his body when he gets inside for the easy buckets
2. his ball fakes and mobility remind of a miniature Olajuwon. He's very creative once he gets his defender off balance.

Really?

Become... Dude has been a good jump shooter since forever... He never even shot less than 50% when he was in college.

Hill is a playmaker I believe, especially how he can draw defenses to him, should leave a lot of people open on the wings to hit 3's, (Praying Paul's 3pt shot gets more consistency)...

I think he sees the court well... but the only thing that I haven't really seen him do much is run set plays... that will be interesting to see how he does with that on the Pacers...

Daaaamn. Some of those steals and breakaways were beautiful.

Also, I LOVE this attitude: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Su9Q-_q66M&feature=related Does not back down to Kobe at all.

He will be more of a facilitator as a PG than a high-assist guy. He will keep the ball and the offense moving, but I don't think he will ever have a ton of assists or crazy passes.

The only reason to play him at the point is for his defense. Offensively, DC is more of a point guard (yes, really).

That's why I doubt he becomes our starting point guard, though his defense may be enough to make that happen, who knows.

My guess is we'll start DC and George, and then bring in Lance and Hill at the same time. Those two could really help one another, I think.

Yeah, keyed in right away on that. He looks and plays much bigger than 6'2". Standing next to the 6'6" Kobe he looks like like he's only 2 inches shorter.

Either Bird or Morway (I think it was Morway) said that George Hill was 6'4". I was suprised when he said it, but he looks more 6'4" than 6'2".

I don't expect Hill to come in here and be Mark Jackson, but I hope he doesn't stagnate the offense like AJ and Dahntay do. As long as he plays defense and keep the ball moving on offense, he'll be an adequate enough backup PG. That said, I hope he plays more SG than PG.

My impression from the highlights is that he has really smooth handles like Quis did. In fact, Hill's game reminds me alot of Quis but without the injury concerns and with more physicality and defense.

Thats what I'm saying. He seemed like a great passer whenever I watched the spurs. I think he is super talented but wasn't one of the spurs main options like Ginobili or Parker. In Indiana I could see him as Indiana's starting point guard if Collison doesn't step up his game a lot from last year.

Really?
06-25-2011, 07:01 PM
What does it take to be a successful starting PG just wondering... I mean I think taking care of the ball, making smart passes, being able to see the floor, and being able to get past people, play good individual defense

From what I have seen Hill posses all of these things...

Didn't say that at all. I don't blame George Hill for being a 6'2 SG either, but he is a 6'2 guy who will play a lot of SG for us. I'd love Hill if he simply played PG for us cuz I care more about defense than offense, but I don't like the mismatch of a 6'2 guy vs a 6'6/6'7 guy.

I think he plays smart too. He always comes across a player that's running a second ahead of the game, thus the steals or the McHale special step under scoop layups.

JJ Berea was one of the key guys that needed to be shut down by teams trying to stop the Mavs from going to the title. In that first video you see Hill just destroy one of his layup attempts. That has value.

The guy has a 6'9" wingspan. I think he'll be just fine.

The one thing I loved more than anything is that he attacks the basket, which very few (if any) of our players do.

That's going to be huge for us. He can draw defenders and get easy baskets for Tyler and Roy, not to mention he's an excellent finisher at the rim.

Yup. Hill's 3.6 FTA per game last season would have tied Tyler for second on the team, behind Danny's 5.9 FTA. Actually I'm kind of expecting a breakout year from him, at least scoring wise.

Corner 3 will be a HUGE weapon for this team too. He'll play off of Roy in the low post for lay ups. Doesn't turn the ball over, good percentages from 3 and the line. Very very good defensively. Unselfish, high basketball IQ.

I can't believe some didn't absolutely love this trade. No he's not a superstar, but he's a guy that is a winner and does the things tangible and intangible to cause that.

Just a huge piece moving forward, great step. I'm still shocked SA did it, they loved him.

Can we please start referring to George Hill as Hill or something other than George ??

We already have a George , and it is his last name.. lol..

I love his ability to finish at the rim. Last season it seemed like we had so many missed layups or mistimed dunks by our guards. His ability to not only get to the rim, but finish is something Im really looking forward to.

I saw a little of Parker and a little of Manu at the rim in that video. I hope he shows George and Collison a couple of things (defensively too).

Paul George and George Hill combined have a 13 foot 8 inch wingspan.

Did Jay Bilas join PD? Whats with all the wingspan talk?

I understand its nice, but it doesn't make up for the 4 inches most SGs will have on him.

Standing reach and wingspan are what really matters all together, they tell what your range is... that is how you know how much you are really giving up, much more important than height.

For what it's worth, Hill is the third best rating in the Pacers in NBA2K11: http://thereal2kinsider.blogspot.com/2010/09/nba-2k11-player-ratings-final-w-jordan.html

Because the best perimeter defenders consistently have long wing spans. Pure height on the perimeter isn't as necessary as it is in the paint.
