Share Print Font: +-BLOOMINGTON - Calbert Cheaney is returning to Indiana as the Hoosiers' new director of basketball operations.

Cheaney returns to his alma mater after spending the last two seasons working with the NBA's Golden State Warriors. Coach Tom Crean made the announcement Saturday during his father/son basketball camp.

Cheaney played 13 seasons in the NBA after being named 1993 national player of the year, Big Ten player of the year and setting the conference scoring record with 2,613 career points.

He was the No. 6 overall pick in the '93 draft and averaged 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while playing with five NBA teams: Washington, Boston, Denver, Utah and Golden State.

Thanks for posying it here though. I wouldn't have seen it since I don't read that thread and am a Cheaney fan.

Is there a rule that everything IU has to go into one thread?

Not at all.

I'm still very excited about this. I think it's a grand slam hire, I really do. Of course I'm biased due to my love for all things Calbert Cheaney, but it's really great to see a former Hoosier legend part of the staff. Calbert really is a great guy.

I have an autographed pic that I sent to him when he was with the Bullets. He personalized it with a message which I thought was cool. Glad to see him back with the school.
