The Nets are expected to add veteran point guard Travis Best to their training camp roster. Best, 32, reached a tentative agreement on a partially-guaranteed contract but has not signed. If he passes a physical today, Best should sign and provide insurance against an extended absence by Jason Kidd. The Nets lost one point guard, Tierre Brown, who left for guaranteed money from the Lakers.

"Travis gives us a veteran presence needed at point guard and he can knock down a jumper," said Net GM Ed Stefanski. "He's a nice insurance policy."

From what I've read, the contract is partial because NJ just wants him until Kidd is healthy. Then they'll cut him.

How depressing. Well, hopefully they'll decide he's better than the crap they've got backing up Kidd now, and keep him on. Of course, NJ is going to implode this year, so it's not a terribly good situation anyway.

I still can't believe Detroit didn't sign him. No matter what spin KStat tries to put on it, Hunter isn't up to the task of backing up Billups for the entire season.
