It's trying to shape up to be a fueled battle, but all Granger did was make valid points... oh gotta <3 the media.

You know for a long time I've had a huge problem with the majority of PD thinking we needed OJ Mayo. I was bothered by the fact that people thought adding OJ would make us a legit playoff contender. I couldn't figure it, I really didn't think he was an actual game changer. Could he produce good stats? Sure, but a lot of players can do that. Can he actually produce wins? I've never believed it.

The thing is though I've doubted myself daily wondering if maybe I was off. Was I underestimating Mayo? Then I read this article by Bob Kravitz stating we needed to get OJ Mayo. That's when I knew I was 100% correct lol.

Thankyou Bob for reinforcing my opinion.

O.J. Mayo is like Lance. He has great talent. But keeping him in good chemistry with the team is about as easy as keeping him out of handcuffs.

Kravitz would have said Bayless instead of Mayo except no one on PD has pointed out that Bayless is averaging 23 pts in April's 7 games, so naturally he's unaware of it. IOW, Kravitz gets a large % of his info from forums. He's nothing more than a regurgitator of other peoples thoughts and comments. That's not say he doesn't write some decent articles at times with some good points, but personally I find better more enjoyable info on PD!

Hmm...

I was never sold on the botched Mayo deal. That's not to say I'm not sure whether it would have been good or bad. Then or in the future. I agree we need more scoring help, but if I had my druthers, I'd like to get it by acquiring somebody besides Mayo.

I don't know if we're better of with Chicago or Boston. I don't care. You play who the records dictate you will play.

As far as Granger, the quote, and Kravitz's discussion of DG in the playoffs, I tend to agree. While Danny's quote might be accurate, I'd prefer to just play and not talk. And with DG, I don't think he's got the cred to get into this type of pre-series word war due to his absolute lack of a playoff resume.

I'm also in complete agreement that Granger is our "star", but he's not really a top dog on a 50 + win team. He's option 1A at best, but more likely B or C. But, as the column points out, this is Granger's opportunity to change my perception. Kravitz is right on in that respect. We don't expect to win the series, but DG at least has to be expected to win the head to head with Deng, notably imapact games, and lead the team by example if he wants me to buy this whole press-quote bravado spiel, and his legit candidacy to be the man on more than a sub - .500 team.

Put your money where your mouth is DG.

Seems to me he is just telling the truth. Do you REALLY think the Pacers will win this series? That is a much different question than asking if you think they can win one or two games in the series.

The Pacers didn't beat the Celtics in that memorable series back in '91, but Chuck Person standing up to Bird and coming out as a vocal leader during that series brought more excitement to the franchise than it had seen in quite some time.

Yes I do or I wouldn't be here. No need to end a beaten article that we all already knew about with this cryptic drivel at the end. It made me incredibly angry. Theres being honest and there's being a douche. Bob flirts with both all the time

Upon further review, it's whatever. I no longer care about anyone else except me. The pacers are in the playoffs and I'll be damned if anyone is going to ruin that for me.. Especially not some clown named Derrick. Or Bob.

Maybe the thought is that Mayo could get spot minutes at PG? Particularly with the second unit as well as play some 2 with the starters as well as when Vogel wants to go big, Mayo/PG/Granger/Tyler/Hansbrough. Mayo has the length to help against guys like DRose, John Wall, and Tyreke Evans, that will always give DC2 a tough game. Mayo has the ball handling skills and ability to create his own shot, which this team lacks with the exception of Danny.

I won't let anybody tell me or convince me we can't beat them. Because we have before and we can do it again. I'm with you P4L.

I seriously doubt Bob's ever heard of PacersDigest. And if he has, he's never been here. The guy hates the internet.

The thing with this team that frustrates me as a fan is that the progress seems to be moving like molasses.

When you are a team that is building you want to see certain things. For example, it's not just about making the playoffs. It's about earning a spot in the playoffs and being competitive. And the brutal truth is the standard in the East to make the playoffs is pretty low right now. Luckily for us, somebody has to make it. But I feel like the talent gap between us and Chicago is gonna prove to be a broad one. And we have too many question marks to really challenge them right now. They defend at a championship level. It's gonna be tough for our bunch to execute, especially down the stretch.

But it will still be nice to watch them get that experience. Because it will be a very valuable one.

I got drunk at a Pacers viewing party a few seasons ago with Kravitz and Eddie and pretty much accused him of getting his material off of PD. He knew what it was, but he laughed at me. A lot. My buddies did, too.

LOL, horsefeathers!

He lurked over at IndyStar Forum years ago b4 they made their change. If he lurked/read threads over there what makes you think he doesn't read PD?? How else does Kravitz know how the diehard fans feel about the things that go on during the season?? He reads where the the Pacers are discussed. You can't be so naive you think Kravitz doesn't lurk on PD. He's not doing his job if he doesn't glean info from ALL sources and that includes PD.

Agree, but Person had some memorable games at meaningful points in the series. Granger hasn't yet done anything near that. This is his chance. I'm just saying, if you want to give potential bulletin board material, you're implicating yourself to follow it up with something substantive. If he does, more power to him.

As I said elsewhere, if we win, I'll eat my hat...happily. What I'd like to see is competing in more than one game, winning at least one game, and Granger legitimizing his potentially outrageously overinflated confidence quips.
