Ford: Who's In, Who's Out?
ESPN NBA Insider Chad Ford is keeping an updated list, with analysis, of who's in and out of the 2011 NBA draft. Column

Butler junior guard Shelvin Mack, who led the Bulldogs to a second straight NCAA championship game appearance, will declare for the NBA draft but not sign with an agent, coach Brad Stevens said.

According to Stevens, Mack will test the draft process between April 24 and May 8 to see where he would fall in the first round.

Mack averaged 16 points during another attention-grabbing run for the Bulldogs in the NCAA tournament. He led the team in assists per game (3.4) and minutes played (32.1).

A year ago, Butler lost Gordon Hayward to the draft. The forward was selected ninth overall by the Utah Jazz.

While I selfishly hope he comes back, this is absolutely the right decision.

There is no reason for any junior with NBA aspirations not to test the waters.

And if I'm GM picking late in the first round, Shelvin Mack would certainly be an enticing option. If that amounts to a guarantee, then he has to go.

No player who has a first round guarantee should go back to school. And no player without one should leave.

He should go. This is a REALLY weak draft, and what are the odds his stock will ever be higher? He already impressed on the summer circuit last year playing against NBA talent, and he had another good tournament, the title game being the exception. If he goes into the draft workouts and shows well, he's a definite first rounder. If he REALLY does well he could sneak into the teens or even the late lottery.

On the bright side he can still go to college during the lockout.
