Grizzlies F Zach Randolph was chosen for the 2011 Community Hero Award presented by Memphis Light, Gas and Water. Randolph received the award after sponsoring payments for single-family utility bills during the month of January for the second consecutive year.

I know he has been discussed on here before, but would the Pacers take a chance on him? Wonder if it would be a good idea to have Lance and Zach on the same team. Would be a good fit it seems, if he stays out of trouble obviously.

I'm really glad Zach is doing well, and as much as I think he good help this team, I think it's best for both parties he stay far away from home. Just too many bad influences and distractions.

He would be a heck of an addition on the court. And I believe that the guy's better now off the court...but the worry is all of his influences in Indy. If I were Bird I'd have to be pretty certain he'll stay clean before I'd sign him.

He's pretty fun to watch in Memphis.

He's helped them out a lot this year playing well around the post.

Zach Randolph and Leaf in the same sentence :laugh:The real point is, will we ever see Zach Randolph and potential trouble in SEPARATE sentences?

He's a good player, not worth the risk.

Yes he is better in the post. But he also runs PnRs with Conely also he sets hard screens and is a much better PnR player than anyone we have on our roster.

Cue the "Zach's a thug and drug dealer" posts

I've mentioned numerous times on here that, while I don't know Zach personally, I see him fairly often in the summer when he's back at his house in Fishers/Geist as he lives a few minutes away from me. I've had the chance to speak with him several times during the summer and he's one of the single nicest NBA players and professional athletes that I have met. Despite what the media suggests, Zach seems to lead a pretty low-key lifestyle during the summer. I know there are concerns over the so called "bad influences", but I don't know that they really exist anymore. I walk my dogs past his house and rarely, if ever, see anyone other than Zach and his girlfriend there in the summer.

I have a client of mine who lives in the Memphis area and we always talk hoops and business. Anyway, he's a huge Memphis Grizzlies fan and told me that Zach has done a ton of charitable events in the Memphis community from passing out turkeys to paying heating bills for those less fortunate so that they wouldn't be cold during the winter. I guess Zach has also done several free basketball camps and clinics in Memphis and Indy as well. Suffice to say, the Zach Randolph at 29 is a lot different from the Zach Randolph at age 24.

I think that his NBA numbers speak for themself. I mean, Zach is putting up 20 & 13 a night. The only other 4's putting up numbers like that are Amare, Blake Griffin and Kevin Love. He's 3rd in the league in rebounding and can bang down in the paint with the best of them. If we end up losing J-Mac, why wouldn't you want a player averaging 20 & 13 playing the 4?

We always hear about how NBA players want to buddy up in Miami, New York, LA, etc. and that Indy can't attract free agents. However, I think Zach would jump at the chance to come play for the Pacers. His Mom still lives in Marion and he knows the Indy area well. If you ever get a chance, go to 1070the fan's website and listen to JMV's podcast with Zach from December. It's a pretty good interview.

I only remember him getting arrested in Indy a year or so ago and maybe a DUI with the Clippers.

He's always gotten the bad rep I guess because of how tough he is out on the court.

He seems like he's turned over a new leaf.

Ever since that incident in Indy, he's been very unselfish and has done a lot in the community.

Zach was accused last May of being a financier of a "major drug ring" in Indy (despite making 17 million a season). As you may recall, someone driving an SUV owned by Zach was pulled over and the guy had some marijuana on him and this turned into "Zach is a major Indianapolis drug dealer". Police later searched a few vehicles Zach owns and stores at a nearby storage facility right near his house. By the way, charges were never filed against Zach and he was never arrested because there wasn't a case as this was the media making a stink about what amounted to be nothing. The only thing Zach was guilty of was being too nice to his friend to allow him to borrow his SUV.

Zach is far from perfect and has made mistakes in the past, but I think he has definitely matured in the past few years and he now "gets it". I remember seeing him playing in the Indy Pro Am league last summer at IUPUI with guys like George Hill of the Spurs, former Pacer Fred Jones, etc. Zach 's entourage that night consisted of his girlfriend, his 2 daughters, his Mom and I think his step-father. By the way, he stayed to take pictures, sign autographs and chat with fans long after the game ended.

Zack will want a kings ransom for a new contract. I don't see Bird paying it.
