I imagine this thread will derail, but I just wanted to thank you for the post. I'll probably be thinking about this until I go to bed.

:jawdrop:

It's funnier if we just take it in all at once, but let's start actually listing the issues, just for posterity's sake.

I'll start with an easy one: Black History month was February.

I wonder what the criteria is for being an "underprivileged child"? Do you have to show your food stamp card? What a PR disaster. I mean good grief, that marketing team needs to be fired ASAP.

There is my contribution to the thread. :trophy:

There is my contribution to the thread. No race talk involved! :trophy:

Right? Holy crap. So basically they are saying black child = underprivileged? Ummmmm yeah, smart marketing....almost.

Man, Tommy Lee Jones looks old.

It would be more effective to just ask what's right with the picture, and the answer would be the NBA logo, the Clippers logo, and the fact that the Clippers do indeed play the Rockets on Wednesday.

I remember seeing Blake Griffin's parents during the NCAA Tournament a couple of years back. If you ever wanted to know what Seal and Reba McEntire's lovechild would look like, there you go.

I did not realize that Donald Sterling was 78 years old. I knew he had to be getting up there in age but I didn't know he was that old.

Can't all young Clipper fans qualify as "underprivileged"?

Just additional proof that the "NBA Cares".

They are saying that even though the parents possibly can not afford a ticket for the children, the parents must buy tickets themselves to accompany the children to the game?

One of the great many things wrong with the picture...was waiting to see when someone would get to that one.

Two tickets/AD and two ads/family. So you could get 4 free tickets.

Donald Sterling is a funkin Nazi

He can burn in hell as far as I am concerned

But I don't know if this is solely on him, I mean there had to be people of competence in the marketing department

I could see both Blake and Gordon leaving the Clippers after their initial contract is up.

Maybe they will celebrate Dr King's holiday in July

This can't be real... can it?

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more press if true. This is insulting on so many levels. :( What a disgrace.

I laugh at whomever was involved in making this ad, and I feel embarrassed for the "audience" that this was meant for.

I may be able to cut them a little slack on the timing (the rest, not so much). Check out their Feb schedule.....

Yeah they had an 11 game road trip. Second longest of all time.

The TBL blog on Yahoo has the ad and the story too.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/The-Clippers-celebrate-Black-History-Month-in-th?urn=nba-327470

I guess I can't blame them too much for the timing considering the 11-game road trip. Still why even put Donald Sterling's picture on the ad. It's just bizarre.

Well I just realized as a black male I'm privileged and so are my kids. Guess I'm not black enough or qualified enough for this event.
Guess I'll hope for a chance next year..... in FEB!!:)

Wait I can quit my job NOW and be underprivileged and black enough to go next year..... NBA here I come!!!!!

EDIT: I hope they offer this next year or it was all for nothing....

For an extremely racist man to be put on this, it's icing on the cake. Donald Sterling should go play in traffic.

What's wrong with it? It's the Clippers. Nuff said ;)

It is odd to celebrate Black History Month with 1.5 white guys as the models, 1 of whom is a documented racist.

San Antonio has the annual rodeo trip where they leave town to make room for the 2 week rodeo run.

So are the Clippers doing their annual Lakers road trip where they leave town to make room for a 2 week run of NBA basketball at Staples?

EDIT: I hope they offer this next year or it was all for nothing....
Totally worth the risk though.
