New Orleans is the team that reportedly pulled out at the last minute. If that's the case, why would it have been any different if things were one-on-one rather than a three-way?

I don't know if it was possible. All 3 teams are over the salary cap. I don't think the McRoberts - Mayo trade worked as a standalone trade. I doubt that the trade you are proposing would work as a standalone trade either.

That package probably sucked. N.O. was needed as a facilitator, so we had to offer them some incentive. As a standalone deal it probably wouldn't have made sense for us.

And as it turned out, it wasn't incentive enough for the Hornets either.
