View Full Version : Would you welcome back Artest?

There's been some talk lately that the Lakers are looking to make a move in the coming weeks before the deadline. The Lakers don't have a lot of assets that they're willing to trade. Sure, they could trade Bynum or Odom, but those are important pieces of their core. One name that has been floated out there in the last day has been Artest. Marc Stein of ESPN reported today that Artest may be seeking a trade out of LA and hopes he's the one dealt.

With that said, would you welcome back Artest to Indy? We know he has a fondness for Indy and still has family and a house here. There's been talk of him wanting to come back and retire in Indy once his playing career is done, so I don't think he would object.

However, before you all kill the messenger, I am not advocating a deal and I realize that he plays the same position at Granger and George. Nonetheless, it's interesting that he may be seeking a trade so quickly out of LaLa land. Thoughts?

Here's the link for more info: http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&page=Artest-110202

Nope. I still hate him. Not to mention he's not even very good anymore.

Nope....ignoring all of the regular arguments not to take him back....he's redundant now given our future Wing rotation with Granger/BRush/PG/Posey/Lance.

yeah.... that would be bad

I personally would welcome him back.

But I don't want him back. That sends a bad PR message to fans.

I would, but there is no reason that I can think of to bring him back.

No real reason to have him here. Now, if we were a team one piece away from competing - looking for that tough defender with a mean streak....sure, I'd take him regardless of his past. But that's a rare case of the positives outweighing the negatives when it comes to Ron Artest.

I like Ron Artest.

No thanks to Artest. Not sure there's anyone on the Lakers that I would want. Maybe their late round pick to pick up Faried in the draft.

no... he single handedly ruined this franchise

No. He still seems unstable and disruptive.

HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

i simply love pacers but if he wears pacers uniform again i'm done with the team. that's how much i hate him and it won't change whatever happens.

Aw Heck
02-02-2011, 02:22 PM
No.

He's not that great of a player anymore. And if after one year he wants off of the Lakers -- THE LAKERS -- of all teams (and they want him gone, too), then it sounds like he still has some immaturity issues.

BillS
02-02-2011, 02:22 PM
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

There are alternatives, and I question why he feels he has to leave LA, which is the perfect situation for him. We don't need to take Ronnie when the crazy is coming back on him.

I would welcome him back

He is a strange cat no doubt, but he has a very big heart and does do some really good things in the community

That being said, he simply doesnt fit the direction the team is going

Are you out of your ****ing mind? Of course I wouldn't welcome that ******* back. **** that guy. Why the **** would we want him back? We have his position covered, he completely ****ed over our franchise, he's a headcase, and we are actively trying to cultivate an image away from those types of ********. Get the **** out of here with that.

I think Ron wants out of LA because he doesn't understand/fit into the triangle offense. I don't think it has much to do with maturity.

As for wanting him back? Pass. I think he's lost a step, and we're already stacked at his position. Maybe when his contract expires on a cheaper deal, MAYBE.

I never said I wanted Ron's crazy @$$ back here, but I was just curious if anyone would do a deal for him.

All the bad feelings aside... Ultimately no!
Don't need his position
Don't need the "casual fan reaction"
Eventhough I've personally moved on, I don't think I could root for him being a member of the Blue & Gold.

I'm almost willing to take Jermaine O'neal back as a front court rotation player, but not Ron under most circumstances.

k_lewis93

heck no. unless they basically give him to us and we can use him as an expiring. heck no.

If we absolutely had to take one or the other back I'd choose Jermaine everyday and twice on Sundays. With Ron the PR alone would damn near destroy our franchise, and that's before the first Ronnie episode happens. I can understand wanting a guy like Ron in his prime, hell I understand why the Pacers supported him longer than they should have. But if anyone actually thinks this would be a good move for the franchise...

NO CHANCE Ron Artest comes back!

No

Although I admit the morbid part of me would find it hilarious if it actually happened just for the mass hysteria of the local sports media.

Lawls I can't believe this is even being asked. I mean I understand questions about Jackson or O'Neal coming back, but Artest? I mean come on. He is the reason why we haven't been to the playoffs in so long. I'd rather play 4 on 5 than have Artest back on this team

k_lewis93
02-02-2011, 04:15 PM
Alright part of me says no but another says if he could be a good mentor (ONLY) to some of our younger guys on how to play some defense it could be worth it. But it would never happen.

No way would we ever consider bringing back.

We also don't need another SF.

I even changed my user name from "fbof" to "beast23" to demonstrate my admiration for the way he played. Why I've kept it I don't know, but that's another story.

But if you asked me whether I would welcome Artest back, my response would fall somewhere between the following two statements:

"Hell, no!!!!"

"F..., no!!!!"

I think there are way too many fans with long memories and attendance would take a hit. I think ownership and management would be viewed as more than a tad bit hypocritical, don't you?

NO.

And for those who want to trade for Rip, NO. send Rip to LA for Artest. that would be something would it not.

Naptown_Seth
02-02-2011, 06:39 PM
Are you kidding? I didn't even think he was evil or violent or a thug.

But the dude has issues and one of the effects of that is being unpredictable in all sorts of not great ways. Sacto maybe wasn't a great spot for him, but Houston and LA were and he couldn't make either of those work any better than the great situation he had going in Indy.

This is so far past not realistic that it's probably a waste to discuss.

I love Ronnie and would love to see him back in a Pacer uniform. But that being said, there would have to be alot of other significant changes for it to make any sense at all. He plays our deepest and most talented position. The last thing we should be doing right now is figuring out how to get another starting caliber small forward.

Been there, done that, no thank you.

02-02-2011, 09:47 PM
I would welcome Ron back, but he is just not good enough to earn minutes on this team with our roster. Granger/George/Rush/D. Jones/Hansbrough/McBob are all guys i'd rather see than Artest unfortunately. (Ron would probably see minutes at the 4 if he was actually on our squad, hence why I am referencing Hans/McBob)

duke dynamite
02-02-2011, 10:06 PM
Sure. But why would he want to go to a non-championship contender?

PaceBalls
02-02-2011, 10:08 PM
If we were on the verge of being a contender with a SOLID group already established where Ron would just be a role player and defensive specialist... well probably not even then. But I could see the reasoning behind such talk.

On this team it would be an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions. That is, an unmitigated disaster of slightly less epic proportions than the last time Ron was here.

Unfortunately, I like Ron. Yes, I would like to see him back here.

I feel really stupid for that too... :<(

No, mainly because he just blows now.

15th parallel

Ron is clearly on a decline at this point of his career. He's no longer the great player he once was when he was here. He can play good defense still, but with quicker matchups he's sure to get burned. Plus, he's not scoring as much as before. He will just eat up minutes for George.
