View Full Version : Why the Orlando game????

Bird said that he was committed to staying with Jimmy during the west coast trip, then the first home game vs. the Magic he decides enough is enough.

Now I'm not complaining mind you, but what specific about that game that we didn't see several times before?

In all honesty, I hate to keep going to the N.Y. game but it's just that glaring IMO, why not then when he would have had an entire week off to get Vogel or whoever some practice time.

I'll go ahead and advance one theory right now and I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me and if you don't disagree you won't like it. But I think Bob Kravitz article along with several outside online and news sources that were becoming critical of not only O'Brien but also Bird that may have at the very least thrown gasoline onto an already smoldering pile.

It's just a theory and I could be wrong, but again back to the main question.

Why the Orlando game?

Because he didn't play Hansbrough in the second half.

edit: And also Mike Wells said that the owner looked like he was going to have a heart attack, that could have been the breaking point.

Bird said the game was over after the first 3 minutes. Plus the fans reaction, I think the realization that things weren't going to get any better

I thought he was supportive of him HEADING INTO the west trip. I think this was a combination of the greater past + the west trip + the Orlando game.

And that was a McBeard custom jersey I was wearing. McBeard was in a suit. It sucked, and that was my wife's opinion. Maybe TPTB sensed it or thought it was ironic to see that jersey right next to JOB.

Larry said we "lost that game three minutes into the first quarter."

Which is funny, because it wasn't true, technically. So I looked back at what happened.

I think the root of the firing, is Roy Hibbert. Roy was so clearly such a shell of what he once was, that I think Larry felt like it was time he sided with Roy.

I also think not playing Hans very much helped.

And then I think, not playing Josh during his career night, was the final straw. (Ironic right. That Josh and Hans, together, probably played a pretty big role in getting rid of O'brien.)

But as I said, last night..Josh, Roy, AJ, DC, and Jeff (the ones I personally saw) all got upset with O'brien last night. At some point Larry was going to have to side with his young guys.

Hicks has it right I think. JOB had Larry's support going into the west coast trip. Then we would lead those games or they were close until the Denver game, which he talked about. Thats the game where it really started I think. Orlando just put it over the top.

He was talking about O'Brien with the owner on that western trip, so the subject was seriously on his mind...the owner's concerned, right? Then like Bird said, he ventured to say we should stay with JOB, Simon said 'whatever you say', but Bird still wanted to see what happened back home. So what did he see? A home court bump? No. He pointed out that we were out of that Orlando game within three minutes. So it's just the tipping point in the process. The firing was in the works from that point. That's what I took from the press conference.

I don't think it was the Orlando game, if that he had days to get it done before a back to back.

I do sincerely think that last night's 4th quarter was the dagger, nothing else, it was a thinner thread then it was 2 weeks ago, but the thread was still there,

The thread btw was not so thin from losing as it was from how he handled Roy, as Bird said today, he was not happy with that at all, and i suppose he saw another one coming in Josh and called an end to it .

Maybe JOB knew he was fired during the game last night, so he said the heck with this and got himself ejected.

.......I know thats not what happened.

I don't care if it was the Orlando game or simply Bird firing JOB over a fit of rage after receiving a burnt Grilled Cheese at a Diner, the fact is he finally pulled the trigger.

All I can say is thank goodness to that person who burnt Larry's sammich.

Anyone that could see Larry's body language during the Orlando game could tell he had seen enough. He looked absolutely disgusted and restless as he sat in his seat.

FTW.

I was upset that night that Josh was inactive, and at first I was kinda annoyed that just a few games later he was dumped. But in the end it really worked out, right down to the McBeard jersey.

Shade, I figured out how to break the jinx, just get a uni with the right number but not the real name. That made everything work out okay, Josh even had 2 great games after that.

Maybe next I can get a Hungry Hungry Hibbert or Hands Bro.

Nah, those guys play. Get a Lance. See if they'll let you Customize it with Born Ready on the back, then scratch off the bottom of the B to make it Porn Ready!

Matter of fact, that idea is so good I might use it myself...

He thinks I look young, that's the key.

Wasn't thrilled with it myself. I can own the whole situation. I'm growing out the hair but its 2 weeks overdue for a cut honestly. T'neck works with a Colts jersey, obviously less with a Pacers one.

Totally worth it to be on the WTHR video of JOB announcing he was being dumped. F'ing Mastercard commercial.

While the decision to fire JOB may have been made after the Orlando game, I believe a decision was made to wait to fire JOB after the Chicago game so that the new coach would actually stand a chance at winning his first game and with the support of the home crowd.

I wonder if the bolded, along with Vogel being a player's coach will just make guys even happier. Maybe now they know not only does the coach have my back, but so does Bird?
